Program Background • Varsity High School Sport • 2011 Season – our 8th Season • Initially a Fencing Club • Started by PJ Verona and Jillian Mahen • NJ has the highest number of high school fencing programs in the country – • 49 boys’ teams and 49 girls’ teams • Self-Funded for 8 Years • Board supported • Not all expenses are covered • Fundraising efforts are essential! • Team Captains: Girls: Capt .   3. 2010 – 2011 Results • Over 10 USFA-Rated Fencers in the program A-E • Results: 2011-2012 Season Girls Team: 9th in State Girls Epee’ Squad: 9th in State Girls Foil Squad: 14th in State Girls Sabre Squad: 9h in State Morris County Champions Individual Boys Team: 1st in State Boys Epee’ Squad: 1st in State Boys Foil Squad: 3rd in State Boys Sabre Squad: 14th In State Morris County Champions

  4. Why Fencing? • Fencing is a sport of etiquette and tradition. It builds Character, Resourcefulness, Patience and Intuition • Fencing demands considerable physical conditioning placing simultaneous demands on anaerobic strength and aerobic endurance • Fencing is a lifelongsport • For the accomplished fencer, scholarships are available for elite fencers.

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS • Be dedicated to a healthy lifestyle and the disciplines of an athlete • Be willing to work hard and to their fullest potential • Be ready and on time for practices and meets • Respect your coaches, teammates, opponents, referees and fans • Support your team and your squad • Be willing to live the life of a true sportsman ENDHAM

  6. PARENT EXPECTATIONS • Support the Teams, Squads and Fencers • Attend Meets, Meetings, Fundraisers • Support the Mendham High School Fencing Parents’Association • Expense • Time • Volunteer ENDHAM

  7. EQUIPMENT • You do need to buy your own uniform, glove and mask, which costs about $200.   11. OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL • JV Team at all dual meets • Freshman/Sophomore Tournament • Morris Knolls F/S Tourney Away, All day December, 2012 • Some members only fence 3½ months, while others take lessons at clubs and compete in the USFA year round.
