  7. Istat SDMX actions • Istat follows the SDMX initiative and its implementations, also with the purpose of using them to exchange and share data internally and with the Italian statistical System, to ease integration among statistical producers. • Two action levels: • operational actions→ European Task Forces and Working Groups active in implementation projects • strategic actions→aimed at pushing for internal SDMX use, to integrate heterogeneous systems • The two levels are connected, because the experience made in international projects facilitates data and metadata integration and exchange between internal information systems.

  8. Adoption of new technologies (SOA, XML, ...) + Compliance with SDMX standards Strategic action: SDMX for integration Strong contribution to simplify integration mechanisms and resolve some of the main critical integration issues. ISTAT action The SDMX-Istat Framework (version 2.0) is a library of reusable software components, compatible with SDMX specifications. It can be used as a whole, from the collection to the disseminaiton phase, or by using one or more components and integrating them in an existing information system. SDMX-Istat Framework

  9. SDMX was born for inter-organisation data sharing, but it is natural to think of using it inside an organisation or with national data providers (eg. owners of computerised data registers). Strategic action: SDMX for integration

  10. SDMX for integration. Next steps • IN ISTAT • Extend the SDMX mechanism to all data and metadata integration processes; • Enrich and consolidate the software component library with tools for communication between DWs and SDMX web services; • Develop the SDMX Web Portal module; • Develop a Registry system; • Develop Web Services on each domain specific database • OUTWARDS • Extend the SDMX mechanism to the Italian statistical System organisations (who take advantage from existing statistical DSDs) • Extend to non-statistical sectors?
