  1. OSG Software and Operations Plans Rob Quick OSG Operations Coordinator Alain Roy OSG Software Coordinator

  2. State of OSG Software Stack • Currently OSG 1.0 • Based on VDT 1.10.1 • Patch level indicates 19 updates • Security updates • Bug fixes • Some new software (like LFC, XRootd) • We have pushed on providing lots of incremental updates

  3. Some Recent Changes • Creation of Software Tools Group • Monitors internal software development • Works with external software providers • Goal: Ensure we have the “big picture” of software in our heads, and that it meets needs of stakeholders (like you) • Problems with software? Talk to us. • Full support for Bestman and Xrootd • Requested by ATLAS • Can use both together, or individually • Is it of use to CMS? • Addition of LFC • Requested by ATLAS • Is it of use to CMS?

  4. Short-term plans • Currently testing significant update on ITB: • An incremental update, but heavily tested on ITB • Updates to Globus, authorization, GIP, and more • No individual change is “scary” but accumulated set requires ITB testing • VDT Updater • Today, it’s too hard to apply VDT incremental updates • VDT Updater will make it easy to keep OSG software stack up to date. • Nearly finished with internal testing: hopefully available when current ITB testing is finished.

  5. Medium Term Plans • VDT 2.0 • Due in late March 2009 • Adds support for Debian 5 on behalf of LIGO • Begins to add support for native packaging. • VDT 2.0.1 & OSG 1.2 • Significant improvements to Pacman packaging to better support incremental updates • Particularly to allow addition of new platforms. • Very few other changes: they will be incremental updates • Due in May 2009 • VTB/ITB testing, May/June • OSG 1.2 release July 1, 2009 • In time to deploy before September LHC restart.

  6. Operations Recent Changes • Updates to BDII • Redundancy in place • Version update • Updates to Ticketing • New public viewer interface • Ticket submission mechanism • Ticketing Exchange with GGUS • Updates to OIM • Gratia reporting • Science discipline reporting

  7. Short-Term Future • MyOSG • Consolidation of more information • OIM V2 • Mostly behind the scenes • Change tracking • Ownership interface • RSV V3 • More probes • Management interface • More Ticketing Functionality

  8. Medium-Term Plans • Deprecation of VORS • SLAs • Survivability Mechanism • Operations Efficiency Tools

  9. Questions? • Questions about OSG’s software or Operations plans?
