  1. Rocks & Minerals The City School Saman Mujahid JR 3 Science Darakhshan Campus

  2. Contents of Action Plan • Goals • Instructional Strategies task & Challenges • Time line • Resources • Conclusion

  3. Goals • Long-term goals • Short-term goals

  4. Long-term goals • Demonstration of sound understanding of scientific facts through 21st century approaches, thereby stimulating students interest. • Providing an environment based on interactive learning process & engagement in a variety of forms like Microsoft word or multimedia. • Building analytical and problem solving skills through the usage of pictorial representation & the multimedia. • Encouraging group cohesiveness through team work

  5. Short-term goals • Incorporating multimedia in lesson planning. • Indentifying and understanding of Rocks thorough layers of earth with the help of accurate measurement & application of data. • Identifying and applying correct methods to know about the properties & uses of rocks. • Measuring, recording and analyzing data accurately. • Creating pictorial graphs and spread sheets using computer programs.

  6. Time line Months Topics / sub topics • August • September • October • November • Highlighting deficient areas & providing assignments.( Rocks & Minerals) • On line practice. (Drawing layers of earth) • Experimental learning.( Identifying types of rocks & Sorting rocks) • Analyzing pictorial representation, tree diagrams, search engines & websites.( Hardness & Softness scale)

  7. Unit 3-D Rocks & Minerals • Define rocks & layers of earth. • What is a fossils & types of rock? • Sorting rock according to their groups. • Indentify hard & soft rock. • Uses of rocks next

  8. Short term goals according to Blooms taxonomy Forming Storming Norming Performing Knowledge Comprehension Application Analysis Synthesis Evaluation

  9. Heads up ! → Rocks are beneath the surface of the earth. → Different Rock has different properties →Some rocks sock up water. →some rocks are harder than others →Sorting rocks according to their groups. Index

  10. To comprehend….. • Rocks are the hard part of the earth’s surface. • They cover the entire world in the earth’s crust. • Rocky crust sits on a layer of solid & molten rock called the mantle. • Inside the mantle is the earth’s hot searing core. Index

  11. Application….. • Sorting different types of rocks through tree diagram approach. • Drawing the earth’s layers through word processing. • On line rock formation spread sheet Index

  12. Analysis • How are rock formed. • Which rocks are the hardest. • Indentifying soft rocks. • Doing a hardness & softness test of the rocks.

  13. Evaluation • Categories rocks. • Ingenious • Metamorphic • Sedimentary • Uses of rocks in daily life

  14. Creation. • Using word process of earth layers. • Tree diagram • Pictorial representation of types of rocks using various computer programs & multimedia. • Usage of spread sheet in identifying the hardness scale.

  15. Instructional strategies and tasks • Use diagram, charts for a better grasp of concepts. • Use worksheets & tree diagrams for the relative topics. • Provide time for group discussion & planning. • Making flow charts through computer programs. • Making a volcano in the class with the help of clay and food colors • Finding information about volcano through words processing program

  16. Anticipated problems / challenges • Reluctance of students in using computers. • Parents may not agree to new methodology . • Management might object to my ideas • We do not have computers in class.

  17. Solutions • Encourage student & motivate them by rewarding adherent behavior through certificate of appreciation. • Inform parent through news letter regarding the changes using Microsoft word. • Provide management with a detailed insight to my curriculum plan. • Usage of my laptop to make new productivity tools though computers for better understanding for the students.

  18. Grade 3 NewsFrom Saman Mujahid March - 26 -2011 • What happened in class this week • Students learned about rocks & types of rocks • Students will use computers in making layers of earth. • Finding information about volcanic eruption through computers • Rocks are use as precious jewellery • what will happen in class next week • Students will be asked to bring information regarding types of rocks through Microsoft word website. • Student will be asked to find information about usage of rocks. • Student will be asked to make a volcano from clay.

  19. Class Participation Award Given to MaheenArif . By SamanMujahid The city school June 6, 2011 for sharing her good ideas and information with students.

  21. Acknowledgement I acknowledge the latest 21st century teaching methodology through different multimedia project thereby inculcating new approaches & high order thinking amongst our student, motivating & developing their minds by equipping them with the new 21st century technology

  22. Conclusion By implementing the 21st century approaches of teaching, student will benefit and also possess a better knowledge towards science, also I have learnt a verity of ideas by attending the Intel teach program course through which I will teach my student a latest 21st century skills.
