  1. ECFA Preparatory Group "Shutdown constraints and radiation and activation effects”. W. Zeuner, W. Riegler, R. Lindner, B. Di Girolamo, G. Corti, C. Schaeffer, O. Beltramello22.05.2013

  2. Workshop Organization2 main talks (plus discussions) * What are the main issues addressed in this working group * Organizational issues : working group mandate , member list and working planWe will consult within CERN to prepare the workshop with :Other GLIMOs, RP group, Experiments TCs, LHC ...

  3. Activation calculation and Radiation Protection 1. Need of additional RP calculations/ estimation for HL-LHC for : * New detectors / equipments calculations * Air activation calculation Assessment of the impact on: - Short access conditions - Ventilation system (Air circulation) - Service caverns shielding - Experimental caverns boundaries ? 2. Contamination assessment (dust, liquids,..): * Amplitude of the problem * Required infrastructure and equipments * Need of instrumentation and sampling * Impact on activities * Destructive work in undergrounds3. Waste/Operational zoning and management for HL-LHC: * Operational and waste zoning calculation * Cool down areas and storage space requirements * Radioactive workshops requirements

  4. Activation calculation and Radiation Protection 4. Dosimetry Delivery system of operational dosimeters linked to the Access system 5. Experiments strategy to decrease the activation issue for HL-LHC * Equipment / detectors maintenance modifications * Material * Remote handling or robotics use * ShieldingAssociated schedule Define common development programs between Experiments

  5. Infrastructure and safety systems upgrade and consolidation1. Ventilation system upgrade: * identify the requirements (air contamination (circulation and exhaust), ageing, control system upgrade,..) * possible upgrade planning for LS2 and LS3 * Remaining overpressure issue in LHCb2. Upgrade of safety systems * Sniffers ? etc... ? 3. New safety system required ? Timing and duration of the shutdowns driven by : * Physics Needs / Integrated Luminosity * Longevity of detector components * ALARA * Maintenance needs of LHC and experimentsExperiments specific issues
