Grading • Grades are based on percentages but not all areas are graded equally. • Grading Scale: • Test/Quizzes: 50%Multiple Choice, Open- Ended & Short Answer • Classwork: 40% Notebooks & Workbooks • Homework: 10% Textbook/On-line • Grades are posted online and updated every Week. • Our Grading Scale • 90-100% = A • 80-89% = B • 70-79% = C • 60-69% = D • Below 60% = F • Grades are calculated on cumulative percentage and are rounded up whenever possible.

ELA/Reading The students will be able to… • Determine a theme or central idea of a text ;provide a summary of the text distinct from personal opinions or judgments. • Analyze how a particular sentence, chapter, scene, or stanza fits into the overall structure of a text. • Compare and Contrast the experience of reading a story, drama, or poem to listening to or viewing an audio, video, or live version of the text.

ELA/Reading • Cite textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text. • Explain how an author develops the point of view. • Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including figurative and connotative meanings; analyze the impact of a specific word choice on meaning and tone. ELA/ Language Arts – Grading: • 70% Formative Assessment (comprised of classwork/homework/writing/projects/ & tests/quizzes) • 20% Summative Assessments (Mini assessments/essays) • 10% Class Participation & Effort Grades are posted on Skyward and updated weekly. • This course does not have extra credit assignments. It is crucial to turn in all assignments on time!

  18. “Parents Can Help” poem • Provide a quiet place to work. Arrange a place for your child's work materials. Review your child's school work. Establish a daily routine with your child. Notice your child's progress. Talk to your child about school. Spend time working with your child. • Confer with the teacher regularly. Allow your child to make choices. Notify the teacher if you need assistance. • Have a positive attitude about your child's school. Expect your child to work but avoid undue pressure. Listen to your child read nightly.
