  3. Program Objective • To nurture business students to become future leaders in the international business community. • To learn from a seasoned international business executive.

  4. What is Mentoring? • A process in which the protégé receives personal and career growth through the development of a strong, interpersonal relationship with a more seasoned business professional. • Two-way street: it requires personal investment.

What It Takes to Be a Good Protégé • Assume responsibility for managing partnership • Develop short- and long-term goals • Work with your mentor to establish mutual goals for the program • Have an agenda for each meeting with your mentor • Call your mentor between meetings to stay engaged • Evaluate goal progress and modify accordingly • Respect your mentor’s time – Be on time for meetings • Be flexible and open to new ideas • Complete action items from monthly meetings • Respect confidentiality of your partnership

  8. Expectations • Respect the commitment made by your mentor. • Demonstrate full commitment to the program. • Make us aware of any problems

  9. IBA - Protégé Contract • Review Contract • Notify IBA when you are unable to attend events (iba-gastate@langate.gsu.edu – 404-413-7286) • Sign Contract

Beginning the Experience • Review each other’s interest and backgrounds • Clarify and set mutual goals for the upcoming year. • What will be your ACTIVE role? • Define how you will work together • (Times, frequency of meeting, etc.) • Establish expectations and responsibilities for both the Mentor and Protégé.

  11. Suggested Topics for Monthly Discussions • Current events in international business. • An international issue that the mentor is currently facing • Student’s educational background and work experience • How both protégé and mentor became interested in international business • Short and long term career objectives of both protégé and mentor
