  1. Blog: Online-devices.com APPLICATION OF RELAYS No matter in what industry you work in, somewhere and somehow you might have heard the word “relay controllers”. Industrial relay boards are very frequently used devices in all most every manufacturing or processing units. So what is a relay basically? If you aren’t still familiar with this thing then in simple words, a relay is an electro-mechanical device that is triggered by an electrical current. The flow of current in one circuit leads to the opening or closing of another circuit. So basically, it’s like a remote control switch. It’s controlled using the relay control software. Relays are used in many applications because of their relative simplicity, long life, and proven high reliability. They’re used in a wide variety of applications throughout the industry such as digital computing and automation systems. In power sensitive industries, highly sophisticated relays are used to protect electrical power systems against power troubles and blackouts. In home appliances also, relays are used in refrigerators, washing machines, air-conditioners and dishwasher controls. There are three basic functions of a relay: On/off control: for example an air-conditioners temperatures control, used to limit and control a high power load, like a compressor. Limit control: an example of this can be motor speed control, which disconnects motor if it runs faster or slower than the desired speed. Logic operation: the use of this ability can be witnessed in telephone exchanges and computer automation industry. In this, numbers of instruments are connected to testing points on test devices. The applications of relays are numerous and keep on increasing with advancement in technology.
