  2. Introduction For my Assure Plan, I will be working with Number and Operations and Algebra in mathematics for a kindergarten class. There will be much more Number and Operations in my lesson than Algebra. In this plan I have supplied many materials to teach mathematics, and also evaluate the students with what they have learned.

  3. Materials • Smart Board • Smart Table • Projector • Styrofoam numbers, addition signs, subtraction signs, and equal signs • Number line tape • Erasable markers • “Ten Little Ladybugs” by Melanie Gerth • Paper ladybugs with corresponding number of dots on them • “Fishing for Math” worksheet • Different “Color by Number” worksheets • 1 Giant Dice (constructed from a ½ gallon milk carton) • “Two of Everything” by Lily Toy Hong • Big painted flower pot • Large printed numbers

  4. Day 1 I will start out by asking the students what a number is. I will ask everyone to count to ten. We will continue that until everyone can count to ten. Then, we will count from 11 to 20, using the same action as before. Once everyone can count from 11 to 20, we will start from 1 and count to 20. Then, we will try counting backwards from 10.

  5. Day 1 I will pass out a “Color by Number” worksheet to every student and they will color the pictures. After the students are done with this, I will ask them to think of some more questions about numbers to bring to class the next day.

  6. Day 2 Give each student a “Color by Number” sheet and have them color it. Then, we will read “Ten Little Ladybugs” on the document camera. I will use the Smart Board to have each student put the ladybugs in order, and also have paper ladybugs for the students to line up with them in the correct order.

  7. Day 3 Number lines will be placed on the students’ desks, then they will work on “Color by Number” worksheets. I will explain number lines and use a number line on the Smart Board while they use theirs at their desks.

  8. Day 4 Students will complete the “Color by Number” worksheets. We will discuss addition, what addition is, and how to add. On the projector, I will show the students how to put their Styrofoam numbers in order. Then, we will model addition. We will continue to do addition problems til the end of the lesson.
