  1. Work(S) in Progressor Trails Theme • ITDS (Interagency Trail Data Standard) • NPS Data Transfer Standard and Implementation Plan • FGDC Trail Data Standard • FMSS Trail Data Collection • DOI EGIM IEA efforts Tails proposed as a Pilot effort for Blue-Print ADS

  2. Bottom-Line Benefits Trail Data Standards • Improved communication and efficiency • For our internal and external customers • Through proactive trails coordination and collaboration

  3. InteragencyTrail Data Standards or better named Interagency Trail Content Standard USDA Forest Service – Bureau Of Land Management - National Park Service – US Fish and Wildlife Service • http://www.nps.gov/gis/trails/ • Focus on National Trail System for Managers • Work Started at 2001 Spatial Odyssey GIS Conference, Primm, NV • Currently working on Version 2 of the Data Standard

  4. Factors to Consider • Interagency core data set • Data isn’t cheap! • Standardized terminology • Existing, standardized data attributes • Implementation feasibility & timeframes

  5. Is the Trail Accessible?Data Standard Example • What Are the Core Attributes? • For managing the Geospatial Component? • For interrelationships (Tabular) with other data sources? • Which is the authoritative source?

  6. FGDC Data Standard Inclusive of ITDS, NPS, and others: Partnership of FGDC, NPS, and NCSU • The FGDC-supported Trail Data Standard will provide, in two separate parts: data content and data transfer standards for trails of all kinds: • Initially had Data QA/QC component but removed based on comments • Data Content provides semantic definitions of a set of objects. This part specifies and defines the data elements associated with trails. • Data Transfer describes how to produce or consume packages of data, independent of technology and applications that will facilitate moving data between agencies and systems.

  7. Proposal Review • Barry Schlesinger • Barry Reff • Doug Nebert (V2 comments)

  8. V1 Review Comments • Tighten Up Title & Scope • Involve other groups outside NPS & Fed domains • Timeline • New FGS Work Group?

  9. V2 Review Comments • Lacks non-federal involvement • UML modeling
