  1. "Integrating Cyberspace into the Battlespace" "Engineering Reality in Cyberspace" by Mr. Dimitrios Tataridas, The American College of Greece Winner of theAward for European Excellence in a Scientific Project 2010 28 October 2010, The Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre London, United Kingdom

  2. CYOPSCYBER PSYOPS: REALITY ENGINEERING IN CYBERSPACE AS A COUNTER-INSURGENT METHOD

  3. PSYOPS According to DoD’s Dictionary of Military Terms: “Planned operations to convey selected informationand indicators to foreign audiences to influence their emotions, motives, objective reasoning, and ultimately the behavior of foreign governments, organizations, groups, and individuals. The purpose of psychological operations isto induce or reinforce foreignattitudes and behavior favorable to the originator's objectives. Also called PSYOP.” (http://www.dtic.mil/doctrine/dod_dictionary/data/p/6386.html) Military Information Support Operations (MISO)

  4. Cyberspace’s Topology in 2008 This is a picture of 8 trillion websites…

  5. THE FIVE THREATS FOR NATO • Global Insurgency • WMD Dispersion • Protection of Energy Resources’ Pathways • Global Climatic Changes • Cyberspace’s Security

  6. CYOPS Battlefield Formation PSYOPS and Cyberspace: The militarization of Cyberspace boosts the notion of PSYOPS and the ability to manipulate terrorist cells from a distance, giving a new perspective to the Cyber PSYOPS (CYOPS) Battlefield.

  7. Online multiplayer environments can easily be “lakes” full of fish for global hi-tech terrorist recruitment, since it is a high-noise environment. The gamers might be a great “databank” for recruitment by the Global Insurgency network.

  8. Acculturation Procedures all interconnected individuals & cultures can be susceptible to any cyber exogenous factors (since shared communications = shared cultures) through Skype, YouTube,mIRC,Facebook, Diaspora, MSN, Yahoo, MySpace, etc. • Language Hybridization for Mental/Cultural Change • Infollution(Deliberate Cyber Misinformation through Internet Mass Media) • Disinformation (Black Propaganda – Radical Ideas Implantation in Conservative Cultures & Gossip Diffusion in Subcultures) • Audio-Visual Brain Manipulation through Cyberspace (via subconscious infiltration procedures) • Computer Graffiti – as Cyber Vandalism • In other words: • REALITY ENGINEERING / CONSTRUCTION • THROUGH CYBER-PSYWAR CYOPS WEAPONS

  9. NEAR FUTURE • Protection of Cyberware. • Enhancement of Neurosecurity for military implications. • Distributed Cognition. • Intelligence Amplification. • Direct Neural Interface(Human Neural Network + Cyberspace unification).

  10. In November 2007 and March 2008, malicious programmers vandalized epilepsy support websites by putting up flashing animations, which caused seizures in some photo-sensitive patients.http://www.wired.com/politics/security/news/2008/03/epilepsy

  11. CYOPS The ultimate goals in a Cyber PsyWar are: • Promotion of the Global Strike doctrine and advancement of military-industrial-mass media complexes’ digital security. • Denial of mental sanctuary in Cyberspace for the insurgents’ genuflection (inability for military and organizational decision capability, structure and processes – Internet will be a “prohibitive” medium for them). • CYBER PANOPTICON = CYBER DOMINATION (Cyberspace Awareness). • Strategic Intelligence for NATO’s Cyber Security. • General Petraeus’ Social Engineering promotion. • Global Information Grid’s (G.I.G.) & INFOCONs’ enhancement. • Enhanced Network-Enabled Command Environment. • Offensive Sociocybernetics(alternative new perspectives & approaches on General Systems Theory & Network Theory). • AVOIDANCE OF STRATEGIC INFLECTION POINT. • Internet Forensics Enhancement.

  12. BOTTOM-LINE • Cyberspace is ALREADY an informational battlefield. • Cyberspace exists EVERYWHERE, thus expect an attack from ANYWHERE, negating to NATO its cyber military omnipresence. • Perception Management and Mind Manipulation through Cyberspace will be a dominant issues in the future. CYOPS will be a COMBAT MULTIPLIER, penetrating directly and pervasively into the enemy’s heart and mind. • A “cyberpunkish” approach might be crucial, shaping virtual environments like other battlefield ‘cubes’.

  13. “Better hardware is nice, but by itself it will change nothing, if we do not win the War for the Mind”. Colonel Paul E. Valley, From PSYOP to MindWar: The Psychology of Victory <http://www.xeper.org/maquino/nm/MindWar.pdf>

  14. “What is the most resilient parasite? Bacteria? A virus? An intestinal worm? An idea ! Resilient... highly contagious. Once an idea has taken hold of the brain, it's almost impossible to eradicate. An idea that is fully formed - fully understood - that sticks; right in there, somewhere.” Jack Gilroy a.k.a. Old Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) in INCEPTION

  15. After all, “If both the past and the external world exist only in the mind, and if the mind itself is controllable – What then ?” George Orwell, 1984 (New York: Penguin Books, 1977)

  16. Thank you for your tolerance Hope I can answer your questions ? Dimitrios Tataridas <panoplia_propheticus@hotmail.co.uk>
