  5. Useful Terms: • Viscera • The organs in the ventral cavity • Pleural Cavities • Houses the lungs (part of ventral cavity) • Mediastinum • Contains pericardial cavity Cardial or Cardiac = HEART!

  6. Useful Terms: • Mediastinum (cont) • Superior and Inferior • Superior houses esophagus, trachea, others • Diaphragm • Muscle that separates thoracic and abdominopelvic cavities • Pelvic Cavity • Houses bladder, reproductive organs, rectum • Tips into pelvis

  7. Play Dough Cavities! Color Matters! On your torso models: • You will mold: • Thoracic, Abdominal, Pelvic, Superior and Inferior Mediastinum, both Pleural, and Vertebral cavities. • You will Label • Cranial cavity, Diaphragm, Ventral, Dorsal, and abdominopelvic cavities (in brackets)

  8. Time to get Serous… • Serous Membrane • AKA serosa • Covers walls of ventral cavity and outer surfaces of organs • Double-layered membrane

  9. Two Parts: • Parietal Serosa • Lines cavity walls • Visceral Serosa • Covers organs • Serous Fluid • Secreted by both membranes; lubricant

  10. Serosa Gloves Objective: Make a model of the serosa using latex gloves.
