How Much Does it Cost? • The cost for each family is a fee of $500 per student (payable in two $250 installments). - November 3rd ($250) - April 20th ($250) - October 30th(Monday) • Two fundraisers will be coordinated to offset the outstanding cost of the trip (which far exceeds $500 per student). • Student participation in both fundraisers is mandatory; the trip can’t happen without them.

  15. Fundraiser #1 (Oct. 31 – Nov. 23) • Approximate value = $1400 • There will be one winner publicly drawn who will win ALL of the following: • 2 Tickets to see Montreal Canadians vs. Ottawa Senators in Montreal (Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018) • $250 Marriott Hotels Gift Card (Delta Montreal by Marriott) • $250 Regent Mall Gift Card • $200 Costco Gift Card • $150 Superstore Gift Card • $100 Best Buy Gift Card • $100 Walmart Gift Card • $100 Irving Gift Card

  17. Selection Process • This trip is open to all grade 8 NMS students who meet all of the eligibility requirements. • Application packages and the first deposit of $250 will assist in the generation of the list of participating students (100 names). • A wait list will also be generated, for second chance situations and any substitutions.

  18. The list of participating students will be posted the morning of Tuesday, October 31st.Fundraising will begin that same day.

  19. Selection Process (con’t) • Students who are placed on the ‘wait list’ will have their initial deposit of $250 returned and will not be asked to fundraise. • Students who move from the wait list to the participating list do not need to ‘make up’ missed fundraising efforts. • The initial deposit of $250, however, will need to be re-paid to NMS if a student moves from the wait list to the list of participating students.

  20. Payments & Accountability • Cheques are preferred, cash is also acceptable • All cheques payable to Nashwaaksis Middle School (please write the student’s first & last name on the memo line!) • No post-dated cheques, please • Receipts will be issued in June ($500) • Initial $250 deposit due by Monday, October 30 First fundraiser will run from Oct 31st – Nov 23rd (No Christmas fundraising!)  Second fundraiser will be in March 2018

  21. Financial Best Practices • Envelopes & baggies – FULL student names • Cheques – FULL student names on info line • ALL money is handed in to the office • NO MONEY IS HANDED IN TO MME CORMIER • Coloured forms are handed in to Mme Cormier, all money goes to the office (deposits and fundraised monies). No exception.

  22. Fundraised Monies • All fundraising $$$ remains with the school, it cannot be returned to families. • There is no allowance for non-participation. No fundraising = no trip (removal from list of participating students).

  23. Dropouts & Refunds • If students must withdraw from the list of 100 names, they must do so prior to January 1, 2018 in order to recover the $250 deposit paid. After that date, trip funds are committed to suppliers and deposits are non-refundable. • If students are removed from the list (by Mme Cormier or admin) for any reason, refunds will be handled on a case by case basis.

  24. FRIENDLY REMINDERS

  25. Accountability • $$$ does not guarantee a seat on the bus. • Students earn their way on the trip by holding up their end of the deal: - behaviour (in class) - citizenship - academic effort - behaviour (out of class) - attendance - ‘Ottawa process’ • Privileges can & will be revoked on the road.

  26. Student & Family Accountability • Students can be sent home at parent/guardian expense (two tickets) – NO REFUNDS • This trip is a ridiculous amount of fun, but it takes cooperation and teamwork across the board to make it so.

  27. Citizenship Tracking • Homework completion, working to one’s potential, preparedness, defiance, disrespect (student and staff alike), absenteeism and/or tardiness, detentions, suspensions, general complacency (aka. laziness/indifference), etc. • Regular contact with grade 8 teachers. • Admin & Mme Cormier have the ability to suspend participation privilege.

  28. Friendly Reminders • ALL coloured forms must be returned to Mme Cormier promptly. • ALL MONEY IS HANDED IN TO THE OFFICE. • Ottawa updates/info will be posted to school website (link on homepage). • Fundraisers are not optional. • Excursion is extracurricular, not co-curricular. • This trip is a privilege, not a right.

  29. Friendly Request • If anyone is in a position to help … A donated box (or two!) of grocery bags (Superstore, Sobeys, etc) would be greatly appreciated as we use them to collect garbage on the buses daily and our supply is low. Thank you!
