  18. IMPROVING ATHLETIC EXPERIENCE and RESOLVING ATHLETIC CONFLICTS(page 4 in Code of Conduct) The athletic administration and coaches are always available for constructive feedback at any point during the school year. Open communication with all parties is vital to our programs success. We also strongly encourage athletes and parents to complete the anonymous end of the season survey. This survey provides the athletic department with valuable information (positive/negative) to improve our athletic programs and provide quality experiences for our athletes. • If you have a concern to discuss with a coach, the procedure is: • Encourage the athlete (your son/daughter) to solve the problem with the coach. • If the athlete and coach can not resolve the issue call the coach to set up an appointment. • Do not attempt to confront a coach before or after a contest, try-outs, etc. These can be emotional times for both the parent and the coach. Please observe the 24-hour rule; this also includes emails. • When a meeting is called the athlete should be present. • If the meeting with the coach did not provide a satisfactory resolution: • Call and set up an appointment with the Athletic Director (734-662-0496 ext 225) to discuss the situation. Appointments will be made only after the first two steps have been taken. The call should be made during regular school hours (8:00 am - 3:00 pm). • At this meeting the appropriate next step can be determined.

  19. Game Day Dress, Athletic Warm Ups & Sport Specific T Shirts • Game Day Dress-see handbook (uniform bottom with jersey during school). • For any CHSL Awards-khaki’s, white dress shirt and green GR tie with or without jersey-check with coach. Ties are in stock-spirit store/main office. • Athletes must also purchase ticket to event if not playing in order to receive award (Coaches Association’s policy-not CHSL). If athlete does not show he/she will not receive his/her medal • Warm Ups-orders are online. Directions can be found under “FGR Athletic Warm Up”. Indoor (thinner) and Outdoor (thicker) options. • Watch deadlines each season • Mailed directly to home • Name on jacket and pants (first initial and last name) • Good for ALL teamsonly have to purchase 1 for 4 years!! • Check with individual coach as to expectations • Sport Specific T-shirts-ordered once a season-watch deadlines (thru spirit store-not athletic dept). Turn orders in to MAIN office

  20. ATTENDANCE POLICY • In order to practice or participate in an athletic contest, the student can be absent part of the day but should be in school no later than 4th hour/lunch time (10:45am). If the absence is due to illness please communicate with coach directly (may modify practice or sit athlete). • If the athlete is absent THE WHOLE DAY and it is not excused the athlete is expected to communicate with coach that he/she can not practice. • Legitimate prescheduled and/or documented appointment in which the absence is approved through the main office does not impact athletic play. (eg doc appt, funeral, SRA or college visits) • If the athlete was absent all day and is caught practicing he/she will be suspended from practice the following scheduled practice day or next game if caught playing in a game. This policy is to protect the academic standards and safety of the athlete. Student-Athletes are STUDENTS FIRST……..ATHLETES SECOND

  21. Dual Sports Policy • On athletic website under FORMS/INFORMATION • Required for BOTH coaches to sign • Plan of action that both coaches agree on • Coach must consider what is best for team, not the individual

  23. Spiritual Plans • Plans provide a framework which allows them to meet the spiritual needs of our athletes. • Captains and FCA members are expected to be actively involved in planning for FGR field day with Special Olympics (spring)-meet with AD regularly • All athletes are strongly encouraged to attend mass while in season. Spiritual captains and/or coaches should set up with Fr. Lobert. • Teams should be praying every day-before and after practices/games

  24. FCA-Fellowship of Christian Athletes • Provide support for each other-academically, socially, athletically but most importantly spiritually to ensure we keep Christ at the center of all that we do • Will meet WEEKLY –usually meet during lunch periods every Thursday….all athletes are strongly encouraged to attend and get involved (spiritual and regular captains especially) • Actively work on Annual FGR Field Day with Special Olympians (spring)
