  1. John W. Stanko What’s All This Talk About Purpose? February 9, 2007

  2. Purpose Books • The Purpose-Driven Life • The One Thing You Need To Know - M.Buckingham • First Break All the Rules • Go Build on Your Strengths • The 8th Habit - Covey

  3. Quote “This is a world in which people had better be doing whatever they do best, whatever they are really motivated to do, whatever most suits them temperamentally, and whatever makes best use of such assets as they happen to have. In this marketplace, organizations pay for results.” – William Bridges

  4. Quote “In the dejobbed world, the truth that each of us has an inherent life work is suddenly rich with meaning. Nothing less than finding what you were meant to be and do will give you the motivation and the capability that today’s work world demands. Identifying your lifework is no longer an escapist fantasy. It is a condition for being successful. You now have to discover your lifework if you are to have a chance of creating a satisfactory and satisfying work life.” – William Bridges

  5. Quote People who reach exceptional heights may differ from each other, but one thing they all share is a clear goal born of some organizing purpose that summons their talents, aims their efforts, and steers them in the right direction. A compelling purpose is the ambitious person’s true north, keeping him or her on course. What kind of purpose is worth pursuing? The most satisfying purpose empowers its pursuer to enlist others in a quest for some higher good – James Champy and Nitin Nohria, The Arc of Ambition.

  6. Quote Find your voice and inspire others to find theirs - Stephen R. Covey, The 8th Habit.

  7. Quote Find what you hate doing and stop doing it! – Marcus Buckingham, The One Thing You Need To Know.

  8. Reasons: • People have more employment and ministry options than ever.

  9. Reasons: • There are no guarantees or lifetime employment covenants – dejobbed world.

  10. Reasons: • When basic needs are met, people search for significance.

  11. Acts 6:1-7 In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Grecian Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. 2 So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, "It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables.

  12. Acts 6:1-7 3 Brothers, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them 4 and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word." 5 This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism.

  13. Acts 6:1-7 6 They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them. 7 So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.
