  4. We have a new schedule routine in 5th grade! We are happy to announce that Gavilan Peak has decided that 5th grade students’ daily schedules will resemble the daily schedule that our middle school practices. • Students are used to the daily routine once they enter middle school. • Students have opportunities to get some daily exercise. • Students will be able to focus more during class. Math - Mrs. Miller • Students will come to their homeroom at the beginning of each day for attendance and announcements. • Students will then follow their customized schedule throughout the day as they study their core subjects. • Each block is approximately 70 minutes. • Also, we have included an extra recess in the afternoon for students. Everyday students get to enjoy time outside the classroom from 1:40-1:55. This is a time that students can refresh their minds and get rid of some of that energy! What does this mean?? Benefits:

  7. Gavilan Peak is promoting a wonderful concept: All Things EQ All Things EQ is a social emotional learning solution that we are adopting this year school wide! The goal is to transform our school culture into one that is emotionally intelligent. Students will participate in class meetings and leadership teams weekly facilitated by homeroom teachers and administrators. What does it look like? Each week students will watch a short video and a message for the week will be displayed in our homerooms. Students will discuss the motto in teams and will learn how to INITIATE, FACILITATE, REPORT, and PRESENT their ideas. Students will journal and reflect on each weeks motto. We will ask ourselves: Am I being kind and helpful in this moment? Q1 Am I using positive self talk? Q2 Am I making an honest effort? Q3 Am I focusing on solutions instead of problems? Q4
