  2. Enzymes (enzymes) large molecules  small molecules • Enzymes break up large molecules into small molecules. • The enzyme amylase converts starch to glucose. (amylase) starch  glucose • The enzyme lipase converts fat to fatty acids and glycerol. (lipase) fat  fatty acids + glycerol

  3. Enzymes • Proteases split up proteins into amino acids. (protease) proteins  amino acids

  4. Diffusion • Small molecules diffuse through the walls of the villi.

  5. Glucose is carried by the blood to the liver. • The liver changes glucose into glycogen. • Glycogen is stored. • When cells need more energy, glycogen is changed back into glucose and delivered to each cell. Do you know what happens to glucose?
