  1. Summary/Review for Percent Unit -THE Simplest Shortcut I Know!!!By Mr.Q

  2. Percent is “Decimals on Steroids!” .25 = 25% 1.05 = 105% (Check out the “Abs” on that Percent Guy! He’s got a two-pack! à 25%)

  3. Percents to Decimals: Miniaturizing(Getting off the steroids!) • 75% = (Becomes tiny little…) .75 • 150% = (Becomes tiny little…) 1.5So we move the decimal point two spaces to the left.

  4. Decimals (and percents) also change into those Wonderful things called Fractions!

  5. So that means that… All 3 of these are the same thing (just in different disguises!)

  6. Solving ALL Percent Problems is as easy as 2 steps! STEP 1 Amount of Increase or decrease__________________ = % of increase ordecreaseOriginal Amount ßThis means divided by!

  7. Solving ALL Percent Problems is as easy as 2 steps! STEP 2 This means subtract!à Original Amount -Amountof increase = New or decreaseAmount! (or Price!)

  8. For example… Mr.Q’s waist size increased from 32 to 42 inches (after eating at Golden Corral’s Buffet…yummy! Burp! Sorry, excuse me…).What was the percent increase? Amount of Increase or decrease__________________ = % of increase ordecreaseOriginal Amount

  9. For example… Mr.Q’s waist size increased from 32 to 42 inches (after eating at Golden Corral’s Buffet…yummy! Burp! Sorry, excuse me…).What was the percent increase? Amount of Increase or decrease__________________ = % of increase ordecreaseOriginal Amount 10 Answer: .3125or31.25% 32

  10. Another example… Mr.Q’s wants to lose 15% of his body weight (230lbs.) (Sigh! No more Golden Corral...)How much weight does he need to lose? Answer: 34.5 Amount of Increase or decrease__________________ = % of increase ordecreaseOriginal Amount X 15% 230 Hint: Change 15% into a decimal then solve for X.

  11. The OTHER Percent Problem… Interest is an amount of increase or decrease too!Examples…“I got 5% interest on my savings account!”“I paid 7% interest on my car loan” (that sticks!)

  12. TheINTEREST Formula! Interest = Principal x Interest Rate(%) x Time or I = Prt This means multiply!à This one too!à • (It can be memorized by saying “Ipee in round toilets”) • Ok…you think that’s gross…but you DO …don’t you???!! Have you ever sat on a square toilet…Ouch!)

  13. Warning: For NERDS ONLY!!! The Interest Formula is actually the same as the Percent Change Formula! (with one teen weeny small addition) Interests = Principal x Interest Rate Interests Amount of Increase or decrease__________________ = % of increase ordecreaseOriginal Amount Interest Rate X Time (just have to multiply by time as well) Multiply by the Principal on both sides and you’ll get…. Principal
