  1. ENERGY CRISIS

  2. A QUICK REVISION: ENERGY: Capacity to do work. FORMS OF ENERGY: Mechanical, Heat, Light, Magnetic, Chemical, Electromagnetic, Solar and Nuclear energy. MOST USED ENERGY: Carbon and Petroleum fuels. Solar energy is a perennial energy source.

  3. ENERGY CLASSIFICATION: Renewable and Non Renewable sources. RENEWABLE

  4. INTRODUCTION: • Most commonly used energy forms: Coal, Petroleum, Natural gas, Nuclear fuel. • These are non renewable energy forms. • These have accumulated in nature over a long time and can not be replaced quickly.

  5. WHY IS THERE A FEAR OF ENERGY CRISIS.?? It has been estimated that our coal reserves will last for about 200 to 300 years where as our oil reserves are even more limited and will last for less than 50 years from now. The fear of running out of Earth’s energy resources, has created a sort of energy crisis..!!

  6. EXISTING ENERGY SITUATION America and former Soviet Union together produce and consume about 50% of the total energy consumption of the world, but their population is only about 1/8 of the world population. India with a population of about 1/6 the of the world population produces and consumes only about 3% of the total energy consumption in the world.

  7. WHAT CAUSES ENERGY CRISIS.?? The continuous use of non-renewable sources of energy is leading to depletion of these sources. listen to this clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=3qExyeYoJ6I Increasing automobile vehicle Population has added to the increase in energy consumption

  8. Increase in world population has resulted in the increase in the energy consumption. Wastage of energy resources has resulted in energy crisis. Check out the video clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=D1sS0PtZ590

  9. Causes of energy crisis: Machines are run by supplying energy. If the engine is defective, more energy is required. Even small leakages from the fuel tank of an engine, results in cumulative wastage of energy. Sometimes, people keep the automobile engines running for long periods, even when the vehicle is at rest. Leaking water taps, dripping taps and leaking gate valves in water pipes, result in wastage of water and hence wastage of energy

  10. Wastage of water in public places. Wastage of electric power in public places. Inappropriate use of heating facilities at home. Bad conditions of roads result in increased energy consumption by automobile vehicles

  11. Control in POPULATION GROWTH OVERCOMING ENERGY CRISIS: • National effort to improve the quality of • roads.(this in tern saves energy)

  12. Use CFC bulbs more than electric bulbs. Encourage use of solar energy Harnessing renewable sources of energy

  13. Hope u enjoyed learning the topic..!!
