  1. High Heel Health Hazards Women often wear high heels to look fashionable, but they are not aware of the health risks associated with it. High heels put a lot of pressure on feet muscles and knees, which may lead to pain and other health issues. Conditions That May Occur Due To High Heels: Achilles Tendonitis Wearing high heels for a longer duration may cause the calf muscle fibers to become thick and short. This leads to stiffening of the achilles tendon, which further causes discomfort while standing and walking. Posture Problems High-heeled shoes put a lot of pressure on the forefoot, which causes the body to lean forward. This disproportionate posture may lead to back pain and a poor spine curvature. Calluses Wearing heels puts pressure on feet and toe sides. Repetitive friction may harden the skin, which may lead to formation of Calluses. The condition may worsen with continuous use of such footwear. Joint Degeneration A lot of pressure is laid on knees when a person wears high heels. This may lead to fast degradation of the knee joint and development of Osteoarthritis. Blisters Regular use of high heels may lead to the formation of painful blisters. If not treated immediately, they may also become infectious. Bunions Wearing tight and narrow heels may lead to the formation of Bunions (bony bumps) at the base of the big toe. The condition occurs when the big toe is forcefully pushed against the other toes. Hammer Toes Small joints in the toes misalign and bend in the forward direction due to excessive pressure from heels. The condition is termed as Hammer Toes, which mostly occurs due to high heels. HIGH HEEL SOLUTIONS • Do not wear high heels for a prolonged period • Opt for lower-heeled footwear • Avoid wearing footwear with pointed toes • To avoid slipping, wear shoes with leather insoles • Practice leg stretching exercises Presented By: www.orthotexas.com Address 4031 West Plano Parkway, Suite 100, Plano, Texas 75093 Call at: (972) 985 - 1072
