  1. JHUNJHUNWALA BIDYAPITHA, BARANG, CUTTACK PRESENTS

  2. ELECTROLYSISOF WATER

  3. Prepared by STUDENTS OF CLASS VII-A & B PROJECT GUIDE BASUDEV MOHAPATRA With special guidance from Jharana Sarkar (Dist Coordinator, AIF)

  4. AIM OF THE EXPERIMENT To prove that • Water is made up of one molecule of oxygen and two molecules of Hydrogen i.e. H2O . • By Passing electric current through water, oxygen and Hydrogen can be separated

  5. Instruments Required • One baseless broad mouthed saline water bottle • 2 no stainless steel rods or 2 aluminum wires. • Cork of the saline water bottle. • Soda – bi – crab.. v) Water. vii) Copper wire viii) 2 test tubes of equal size and shape. ix) Battery of 6 volts. x) Stand with ring.

  6. EXPERIMENT Inverted Saline Bottle • Take a stand with ring • Put the Saline water bottle inverted in the stand Stand with ring

  7. Inverted Saline Bottle • Fill water in the bottle. • Put some Soda-bi-carb in water. Water & Soda - bi- carb. Stand with ring

  8. Copper wire Steel Rods • Fix the steel rods as shown in the figure and connect them with the copper wire to the Battery. Battery

  9. We observe some gas bubbles coming out. Gas bubbles

  10. Test Tube • Take two test tubes • Put them on the rods inverted by taking care that there is no air in them.

  11. When the current is passed we observe that some gas is collected in the test tubes. • When measured , we find the length of one gas level is double than the other

  12. Again we pass the current and let the test tubes fully filled with gas

  13. Fill with Hydrogen Gas • Take out the tube which is first filled • When a burning match stick is brought near, it burns with a pop sound

  14. WHEN WE BRING THE MATCH STICK NEAR THE SECOND test tube THE MATCHSTICK BURNS WITH MORE FORCE Full with Oxygen Gas

  15. CONCLUSION • Water is made up of 2 parts of hydrogen one part oxygen . WATER H2+O=H2O

  16. THANK YOU
