  2. Vocabulary… Order Of Operations • Definition: Rules for evaluating an expression involving more than one operation. • Sentence: Mathematicians have established an order of operations to evaluate an expression involving more than one operation.

  3. Basics… • Rule 1:   First perform any calculations inside parentheses. • Rule 2:   Next perform all multiplications and divisions, working from left to right. • Rule 3:   Lastly, perform all additions and subtractions, working from left to right

  4. Just A Way To Remember…. • P = Please • E = Excuse • M = My • D = Dear • A = Aunt • S = Sally

  5. Parenthesis • Always do parenthesis first. • If there isn’t any parenthesis skip it . Example… (56+23)

  6. Exponents • The second step you must do is exponents ! Example 5² =25

  7. Multiplication and Division. • Do multiplication and division from left to right. Example : (4+6)6x9÷5

  8. Addition & Subtraction • Do addition and subtraction from left to right
