  3. STATISTICS 1 in 4 girls is sexually abused before the age of 18 1 in 6 boys is sexually abused before the age of 18 The average age for reported abuse is 9 years old

  4. HARASSMENT POLICY The Navy League of Canada is committed to providing a learning and working environment for all persons that is free of harassment. It requires employees, officers, cadets, parents, volunteers and all other visitors to conduct themselves in a manner which promotes and protects the best interests and well being of cadets, staff and volunteers

HARASSMENT POLICY An employee, volunteer or cadet who subjects a cadet, staff member, parent, volunteer or other member of the public to discrimination or harassment in any form may be subject to disciplinary action as is deemed to be appropriate, including dismissal from the employment or expulsion from the Navy League of Canada

  6. FORMS OF HARASSMENT Personal Harassment Discrimination Sexual Harassment

  7. PERSONAL HARASSMENT Personal Harassment is any unwelcome behavior that demeans, humiliates or embarrasses a person, and that a reasonable person should have known would be unwelcome. It involves actions, comments or displays.

  8. DISCRIMINATION An act or unfair treatment of a person or group based on prejudice. According to Federal Law, a person or persons may not be discriminated against based on the following:

  9. Race National or ethnic origin Color Religion Age Sex (including pregnancy and children) Marital Status Family status Pardoned conviction Physical or Mental Disability (including drug and alcohol dependence) Sexual orientation

  10. SEXUAL HARASSMENT Any unwelcome conduct, gestures or invitation of a sexual nature that are likely to cause offence or humiliation.

  11. FORMS OF ABUSE Emotional abuse Physical abuse Neglect Sexual abuse (contact or non-contact)

Abuse In cases where it is determined that Child abuse may have occurred, The CO must report the matter to the local Child Protection Agency (CPA) The CPA will determine with police assistance if the incident being reported constitutes a criminal act or not The CO will inform the Branch President/Division that a report has been made to the CPA and must ensure that the incident report has been completed

  13. Assessment Any individual who receives a revelation must pass the revelation to the CO, who will quickly assess the incident and determine if the nature of the offensive behavior is harassment or child abuse

  14. Harassment Test improper conduct (i.e. any objectionable act, comment or display or any act of intimidation or threat) by an individual that is directed at and offensive to (i.e. demeans, belittles or causes personal humiliation or embarrassment) another person or persons in the workplace and which the individual knew or ought reasonably to have known would cause offence
