Problems in the Structure of Advanced Placement (AP) Exams and how Christopher Mingoia Helped To Improve It

Christopher Mingoia is the Principal for grades 9 to 12 at NAHS in North Arlington, NJ. Christopher had been concerned about his school’s overall performance in the past couple of years. Although students were able to take the course of AP, they were not required to take the AP exams. Students were paying the full fees of the exams taken for every test, irrespective the score they received. Several students were taking the class but they were not taking the test. First change by Mingoia at the district level was to change the policy for AP enrollment required for taking the corresponding AP Exam. Second, reimbursing student test costs for all students who are scoring a 3 or higher. Third, mandating that students taking an AP course must pay fees for the test by Oct 1st or change their course.
