  2. Biographies and Autobiographies are nonfiction. That means it is NOT made up.

  3. Biography Bio means life. Graph means write. A biography is writing about someone else’s life.

  4. Autobiography Auto means self. Bio means life. Graph means write. Autobiography is writing about your own life.

  5. Biographies Autobiographies I had a dream that all men were created equal. (written in 1st person) Martin Luther King was a Great man. He believed That all man was created equal. (written in 3rd person)

  6. What does a reader expect to find in a biography or autobiography? What was special about the person? This is the big idea!

  7. What was special about the person? Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves when he was president. Harriett Tubman risked her life to lead hundreds of slaves to freedom. Martin Luther King, Jr. worked for equal rights for all.

  8. What else might a reader expect to find out in a biography or autobiography? Where and when was the person born? Abraham Lincoln was born in a log cabin on February 12, 1809. He was assassinated in a theater April 15, 1865.

  9. What else might a reader expect to find out in a biography or autobiography? Early Years Abraham Lincoln grew up in a one room cabin in the backwoods of Kentucky. The family later moved to a 230 acre farm.

  10. What else might a reader expect to find out in a biography or autobiography? School Abraham’s school life was vey sporadic. He started in a one room school house when he was six, but did not attend school for a few years after the family moved to the backwoods in Indiana.

  11. What else might a reader expect to find out in a biography or autobiography? Family life Abe had man tragedies in his life. He had a younger brother who died in infancy. Abe’s mother died when he was nine years old. When Abe was ten, his father remarried and then Abe had three step-siblings.

  12. What else might a reader expect to find out in a biography or autobiography? Special Interests Abe loved reading. He would borrow books from friends whenever he could and read by candle at night.

  13. What else might a reader expect to find out in a biography or autobiography? Job At fifteen, Abe did plowing and planting and work for hire. At age twenty-one, Abe works as a clerk. He learns basic math then.

  14. What else might a reader expect to find out in a biography or autobiography? Later years At age twenty-five Abraham is elected to the General Assembly and starts to stud law. For a while, Abe suffers severe depression. He is nominated president in 1860.

  15. Most Importantly What was special about the person? Abe Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. That was the important paper that freed the slaves. This is the big idea!
