Discussing Current Issues: • For each issue: • Write how much you agree or disagree using a scale of 1-5 on a sheet of paper. • 1 = strongly disagree, 5 = strongly agree • Each member of your party takes turns revealing their answer and has 30sec. to explain their answer. • Then attempt to come up with a consensus on the issue as a party.

  4. Issue 1:Student Rights in Ontario Students in 11th and 12th grades should be consulted on the rights and responsibilities of students in Ontario every 6 years, allowing students the ability to determine the structure of the education system

  5. Issue 2:Surveillance and Wiretapping Police and intelligence agencies should have the right to conduct surveillance and wiretapping if they believe it is in the interest of the general public, regardless of the situation or other existing laws.

  6. Issue 3:Class Attendance Students should be responsible for signing in and out of classes with a student card. Absences should not be recorded except to identify student location.Students can therefore attend as much or as little class as they like.

  7. Issue 4:Marijuana Laws in Canada Read the infographic handouts and then discuss: Should marijuana be completely legal in Canada? –Why/why not? Should marijuana be a controlled substance, much like alcohol? This means that you could buy it from a government run store. -Why/why not?

  8. THE ELECTIONS: Starting on Wednesday you will be running a series of debates and elections. You will have 8 minutes to present your party platform and make any points you wish to in an effort to persuade peers to vote for your party to lead the school. Students will then have 2 minutes to ask you any questions they wish -and you need to have good answers. You must introduce your leader (who must speak) and present your party platform. You may only speak in English.
