  3. Theme: Fear In the beginning, Phillip is scared of war and was excited at first. He was glad that he had a war day and now it isn’t because he was yelled at and could get killed by being out at the pier.

  4. In the middle of the book, Phillip is left on his own with Stew cat when he was blind and started to freak out when Stew cat left his lap.

  5. In the end of the book, Phillip thought that he would be saved But really he wasn’t and he had his hopes up and thought he wouldn’t survive without being saved.

  6. Phillip Jr. Really prejudice to black people. He does not follow what his mom tells him to do. As an example, he was told to stay near the house since army submarines where attacking Willemstad but instead he went to see the army submarines and went to the end of the pier with his best friend. He is lost on the raft with a black man named Timothy and Phillip really hates him since he is black and wants his mother with him. He had to choose whether he should stay with his father and leave his friends and mother or go with his mother off the island. Selfish

  7. Main Character : Timothy Black Great Personality Takes care of Phillip

  8. Timothy Black man Nice personality Really cares for Phillip even knowing that Phillip is prejudice of him. He has a cat named Stew cat which he brought him along because the ship was sinking. He was a worker of the Hato. He knows that he has to be careful what he says because sometimes Phillip is rude to him like when Phillip thought that Timothy was saving water for himself instead for both of them

  12. EPOLOGE Two years after I was saved, I was on a plane and the plane stopped for some reason on the Island that I was stuck on with Timothy and I visited Timothy’s grave. “You helped me survive and I should have respected you in the first place. I’m sorry you died and I’m sorry you had to put up with my attitude and I’m really sorry. I’ll miss you and I won’t be prejudice to blacks and that’s my promise”. I Said as I cried and I was serious sorry. I know that I’ll miss him and I always kept my promise. I was never prejudice ever again and I made it to Georgia, safe.
