  6. Examples • Editor: • Making decisions is all about obtaining the facts or trusting someone else's information to make those decisions. When it comes to food choices, a few make that decision on facts - most eat based on advertising. This has resulted in an ill society - one getting sicker each day. • Eating the standard Canadian diet, supplemented by fast food and packaged/processed food over time will probably lead to the following picture of your life: schooling (22-plus years), working (40-plus years), developing diabetes, cancer and/or some form of heart disease sometime during those 40-plus years, a 50 per cent chance of dying in that time period, at least one operation, unable to retire early plus additional expenses due to prescribed medications, reaching retirement only having a short one and a brief time period with your grandchildren, then death. • For 50 per cent of males at least, that is the positive side. For the other 50 per cent, leave out the part about reaching retirement and spending time with your grandchildren. • If you are my age, it is easy to see the external bodily changes in people as you walk the streets. What about the internal changes? That's where the worst results of the bad foods hide. On a daily basis, people make the decision to eat a diet based on meat and dairy products - a diet which is destroying people's quality of life, our environment and the family unit. Good food comes in the form of a plant-based diet - it always has. What is needed now is a federal government task force to seriously look at the issue of the consumption of the foods by the public through what appears to be uncontrolled food advertisements that are resulting in spiralling health-care costs, colossal illness and completely unnecessary, early deaths. • Here's a question. Want to live with good health an extra 10-15 years? Here's the answer. Incorporate a plant-based diet into your life from an early age. Take it from me. If I had not altered my diet in 2004, I would not be writing this letter today nor would I be enjoying my grandchildren. What an experience. • David C. Campbell, • Charlottetown

  7. Examples • Editor: • On May 10, I received the census form in my mailbox. On May 11, I got a reminder asking if I had filled it out and sent it back. • I can only interpret this as nagging. Surely the Ottawa vampires, hanging by their toenails over their computers, can wait at least one day to learn if I speak French or not. After all, they have had four years to set up their survey and anticipate the results. • People sometimes wonder why we are so cynical about politics and those who hang around its edges. I think that this is an excellent example. • Ian MacQuarrie, • HazelGrove
