Positive Impact for Staff • A pleasure to train them and contribute to the future of the profession. • Rewarding to watch them go from “thinking they know everything” to “actually learning”! • Keeps educators knowledge base updated. • Pass on what is not in any book. • Residents teach us a few thing too!

  5. Positive Impact on business • Looks good to referral sources. • Pleased to help in the process. • Identifies those clinicians you would want to add to your staff. • After 6 months can assist with patient load.

  6. Negative Impact on Staff • Frustrating • Some Residents think they know everything. • Feels a lot like babysitting. • Takes more time than if they worked alone.

  7. Negative Impact on business • Intangibles • Takes time to teach them work ethics, responsibility, professionalism, etc. • Financial • Remakes • Patient’s time • Delays care • May impact on referral source • Clinician’s time • Meetings • Don’t come prepared, don’t show

  9. Self-Evaluation • Identifies how the resident thinks they are doing vs. how you think they are doing!

  10. Self Evaluation • Encourages resident time to reflect privately on their performance. • Opportunity for resident to communicate how resident believes they are doing on paper, when some have difficulty articulating face to face.

  11. Process for Self-evaluation • Resident completes form prior to performance review with supervisor. • Resident makes copy of form for each individual attending and one blank form for final. • The Goal is to provide insight into residents perspective.
