  1. WP6: Coastal TransectsDeliverables and Work Plan Start-up Workshop, Kiel Germany 4-7 October 2005

  2. D6.1: Concepts and tools for ICZM & fisheries management (May 2006)Group leader: Robert Kay • Update CZAP coastal projects database (for Asia-Pacific region); • Add fields to include ‘quantitative’ data about stakeholders involvement, e.g., (Thailand, Namibia) • Degree of stakeholders participation in planning and implementation phases; • Level of community organization; • Level of social capital (degree of collaboration for mutual benefits). • Add fields to include fisheries management tools (Thailand, Namibia) Work plan: Kay will come to CDC-Thailand in November 2005 for a short meeting.

  3. D6.2: Categorization of coastal areas using coastal transect analysis (August 2006)Group leaders: Chuenpagdee/Juntarashote Pauly and Clivefoot (1992)

  4. D6.2 Further detailsDevelop ‘typology’ to describe coastal systems to include the following dimensions • Physical coastal geography (e.g., floodplain, continental shelf, lake, barrier islands, etc.); • Coastal habitats (e.g., mangroves, seagrass, coral reefs, mudflats, etc.); • Economic activities (e.g., fishing, coastal aquaculture, cage culture, ecotourism, mining, port, etc.); • Stakeholders, by gear type, fisheries and scale; • Institutional arrangement & governance systems, including management types and tools.

  5. D6.2 Points to consider and work plan • Narrowing the focus to capture ‘key’ coastal typology, e.g., in major LME; • Think about adding ‘functionality’ of coastal systems for the analysis of changes in productivity; • Need to meet and work closely with WP1 to develop the framework; • Need to work closely with WP8; • 1st combined workshop between WP 6 & 8 (tentatively in October 2006, in Thailand).

  6. D6.3: Decision-making framework based on coastal transect analysis (May 2007)Group leaders: Chuenpagdee/Pierce • Develop spatial decision support system usingtools such as Geographic Information System (GIS), multi-criteria analysis, expert knowledge and damage schedule approach; • Locations: Thailand, Namibia and Scotland; • Work plan: • Organise two meetings (in Thailand and Aberdeen) from now to early 2007); • Need to hire one more post-doc (linked to CDC) on modeling to support the existing GIS post-doc in Aberdeen (ASAP); • Work closely with WP 8; • 2nd combined workshop between WP 6 & 8 (tentatively in April 2007 in Namibia)

  7. D6.4: Testing of framework(February 2008)Group leader: Chuenpagdee • Namibia/Angola (Benguela Current LME) • Scotland • Others? Work plan: Need to discuss with other WPs.

  8. Project team members and collaborators WP6: • Ratana Chuenpagdee, CDC, Thailand • Kungwan Juntarashote, CDC, Thailand • Robert Kay, IGS, UK • Graham Pierce, UNIABDN, UK • Cristina Pita, UNIABDN, UK • Jianjun Wang, UNIABDN, UK WP8: • Rashid Sumaila, UNAM, Namibia • Claire Armstrong, UiT, Norway • Abbie Cruz-Trinidad, PRIMEX-FAME, Philippines • Moenieba Isaacs, PLAAS, South Africa • Kevin Stephanus, UNAM, Namibia WP7: • Vachira Lheknim, PSU, Thailand
