What an amazing day of exploration! • We have explored together and learned a lot today: • From the presentations about family support, communication and resources • From the DVD Protective Urges and discussion • From the small group work on challenges to partnerships, creating a family-friendly environment, building relationships • From the role play activity focused on difficult conversations • From your stories about what you are already doing to build relationships with families

  3. Bringing it all back home! • Now it is time to move from what you are doing to what you could do in the future. • The future starts now: How can we bring it all back home? • As you get ready to brainstorm new strategies, think about: • What you learned today from each other and from the different presentations and activities. • What you already do well, and what you think you could do better. • What your families need, want and value. • The resources you have to support your work with families.

  4. Brainstorming Shout Out: What will you do next? • Are there any goals that you share with families that could lead to next steps for your program? • Based on the Building Relationships and Building Relationships with Families assessment activities, do you have specific ideas about next steps for your program? • What are the strategies or ideas that you heard today that you are excited about trying in your program?

  5. Bringing it all back home: LET’S TAKE ACTION! • Get out your year-long action plans • Weave family engagement into your action plan to get it started. You will complete this work with your staff during the homework. • You can think about developing a new goal that is focused on families. • You can add family engagement to your existing goals where you see opportunities. • Be sure to include some of the ideas you thought of as you participated in the session today. • Be sure to include some of the new strategies you learned from brainstorming with your colleagues at the collaborative today. • Take it all back home! When you successfully partner with families, your work is sustainable and children thrive with support from both home and program.
