About Me • Years Teaching: 7 Epic Years • Experience: 5 – art & 2 - ELAR • Hobbies: Reading, Journaling, and my kids. • Education: LCU – Art Education • Noteworthy Achievements: • Family: Larry, my amazing husband and five kiddos Courtland (7), Keandre (8), Cedric (12), Natasha (14) and Calvin (15) • Life Philosophy: Be Brave, Selfless, Kind, Honest, a Divergent Thinker, and love the Lord!

  3. Our Theme: We Are Legend Reason: A legend leaves a mark. No matter how you look at yourself it is my belief that you can do something significant. It might be significant for thousands of people like inventing something fantastic or starting your own company. It might also be small and ordinary to some, but something that is looked at with awe and admiration to a select, small group. No matter where you come from, no matter how good you have done in school in the past, no matter how much money your family has, there is place for you. You just have to find it! We are LEGEND!

  13. Step #1: Step #2: On a piece of paper carefully write your own definition of the word legend. Once you have written your definition, write down two other definitions from people around you. Assignment: What is a Legend to You?

  14. Final Step!: Write down 5 legendary qualities, achievements or goals you have achieved or want to achieve!!!! Assignment: What is a Legend to You? You Did It!!! You’re batting 1000% for the year so far on assignments!!!

  15. Sharing Circle Knowing is good. Knowing everything is better.

What are Circles? • Circle Topics: • Fun- What is your favorite movie comedy? • Fun- What is your favorite food? • Sensitive- What aspect of the math test was most challenging for you? • Sensitive- Why are you taking summer school? • Academic- What are the most important concrete details from the video? • Academic- Read your response to question #7 • In a circle, all students sit facing each other. • The dialogue created within a circle may engage the students in fun discussions, sensitive discussions, and academic discussions. • Most importantly, the circle must feel like a safe and supportive space.

  17. The Classroom Circle • What was the most interesting place you visited this summer? You may answer in one word, or briefly explain your choice. • What is your favorite food. If comfortable, tell use the place/person who makes this food for you. • Lastly, share with the circle the best thing that has happened to you so far while attending your school. What is fun about school? What is a great memory you have while attending school?

  18. Written Reflection- Day 2 • What were some of the main goals and rules for this classroom? • How did you enjoy the circle? What are some positives a circle creates? Were there any responses from other people that you found interesting?

  19. Ice Breaker: Seats! • Comic Strip Craziness! • Each student will choose one comic/cereal box panel from the bag. • Students must then find the three other students with the same comic.

  20. Note to Teachers • Cut out the comic strips. Hand out a PIECE of the strip to each student as they enter the class. • When the time is right, have the student FIND the other 3 people that have their strip! • Challenge the students to put the strip in the correct order! • Once they THINK they have completed the assignment, show them each strip on the projector!

  31. Reflection • When this small task began, you may have thought it was a difficult task; however, you were able to make inferences and use evidence to find your group. Explain the steps and thoughts that led you to finding your partners!
