  1. PALM SUNDAY GREETING P:The grace of our Lord + Jesus Christ and the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. C:Amen.

  2. P:Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord. C:Hosanna to the Son of David. P:Brothers and sisters in Christ: in the five weeks of Lent we have been preparing for this week,

  3. the events of our Lord’s death and resurrection. The great and wondrous paschal mystery now lies before us as we enter with Christ with palms and hosannas before He confronts the cross.

  4. Everything in Lent points to this week. As we commemorate how our Lord entered to the welcome of palms and hosannas, we also remember His death that gives us life and His resurrection through which we dwell with Him for all eternity.

  5. Let us pray. Most merciful God, as the people of Jerusalem, with palms in their hands, gathered to greet Your dearly beloved Son when He came into His holy City,

  6. grant that we may ever hail Him as our King and, when He comes again, may go forth to meet Him with trusting and steadfast hearts and follow Him in the way that leads to eternal life;

  7. through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C:Amen.

  8. HOLY GOSPEL JOHN 12:12-29

  9. P: The Holy Gospel according to St. John, the twelfth chapter. C: Glory to You, O Lord.

  10. The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out,

  11. “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written,

  12. “Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt!” His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified,

  13. then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him. The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness.

  14. The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign. So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are gaining nothing. Look, the world has gone after him.”

  15. P: This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to You, O Christ.

  16. BLESSING OF THE PALMS P:God be with you. C:And also with you. P:Let us give thanks to God our Creator.

  17. C:It is right to give God our thanks and praise. P:Almighty and loving God, it is indeed right to give you our thanks and praise for the acts of love by which you have redeemed us through Christ Jesus our Savior.

  18. The Hebrews acclaimed Jesus as the messiah and King with palm branches in their hands, crying “Hosanna in the highest.” We pray you, O Lord, bless these branches and make them holy.

  19. May we also, carrying them forth from this place and crying out “Hosanna in the highest” and “Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord,”

  20. acclaim Jesus as our Messiah and King and follow Him in the way that leads to eternal life. C:Amen.

  21. P:Let us go in the peace of Christ and acclaim him as our Lord and King. C:Amen.

  22. P:The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.C:And also with you.

  23. HOSANNA, LOUD HOSANNA 1) Hosanna, loud hosanna, the little children sang; through pillared court and temple the lovely anthem rang.

  24. To Jesus, who had blessed them, close folded to His great, the children sang their praises, the simplest and the best.

  25. 2) From Olivet they followed mid an exultant crowd, the victor palm branch waving and chanting clear and loud.

  26. The Lord of earth and heaven rode on in lowly state nor scorned that little children should on His bidding wait.

  27. 3) “Hosanna in the highest!” That ancient song we sing; for Christ is our Redeemer, the Lord of heav’n our King.

  28. Oh, may we ever praise Him with heart and life and voice and in His blissful presence eternally rejoice!

  29. INTROIT P:Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! C:We bless you from the house of the Lord.

  30. P:Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, C:that the King of glory may come in.

  31. P:Who is this King of glory? C:The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle!

  32. P:Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O ancient doors, C:that the King of glory may come in.

  33. P:Who is this King of glory? C:The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory!

  34. P:Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! C:We bless you from the house of the Lord.

  35. THIS IS THE DAY • THE LORD HAS MADE 3) Hosanna to the anointed King, to David’s holy Son! Help us, O Lord; descend and bring salvation from Your throne.

  36. Hosanna in the highest strains the Church on earth can raise. The highest heav’ns, in which He reigns, shall give Him nobler praise.

  37. SALUTATION P:The Lord be with you. C:And also with you. P:Let us pray.

  38. P:Almighty and everlasting God, You sent Your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, to take upon Himself our flesh and to suffer death upon the cross.

  39. Mercifully grant that we may follow the example of His great humility and patience and be made partakers of His resurrection;

  40. through the same jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C:Amen.

  41. OLD TESTAMENT ZECHARIAH 9:9-10

  42. Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

  43. I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the war horse form Jerusalem; and the battle bow shall be cut off, and he shall speak peace to the nations; his rule shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.

  44. P: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

  45. EPISTLE COLOSSIANS 3:1-4

  46. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,

  47. but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
