  2. Basic Information • JRPG/Social Simulation • Developed & Published by Atlus • 5th Installment in the Shin MegamiTensei: Persona series • Originally released for the PS2 in 2008 • Re-released with extra content for PS Vita in 2012 • Assumed the title of Persona 4: Golden

  3. Story • Transfer student to a nowhere town named Inaba • First few days revolve around adjusting to your new life and meeting classmates. • However, as a string of murders in the town prompt you and your classmates to find the culprit. • The murders become increasingly more relevant as your friends become targets

  4. 1st Level of Gameplay (Life in Inaba) • Combination of restricted map movement and free roaming • Plays like a life simulator where days progress with actions • Over the course of 1 year, the player can do various various activities.

  5. 2nd Level of Gameplay (Dungeons) • Prior to entering, the player can select teammates • Dungeons continue 3rd person perspective • Battles are initiated when contact with a shadow is made

  6. 3rd Level of Gameplay (Battle System) • Turn-based based off of individual speed • Attacks are categorized as either physical or elemental • Each character (Yu excluded) has a specific element • Battles operate on a “1-More” system where exposing a weakness grants an extra turn

  7. Persona • Spiritual beings that provide characters with special abilities • Can be bought, created, and fused in various ways • Creativity comes in allowing the protagonist to utilize the various persona

  8. Social Link System • Unlocks abilities for your teammates and their personas • Greatly expands upon the character development (if you choose to bother) • Results in unique persona transformations and allows new personas to be created

  9. Decisions and Choices • Hundreds of situations in the game when the player is allowed to make a choice • Decisions can affect one’s social links with others among a variety of things • Essentially propel the entire game

  10. Pros • Massive amount of character development • In-depth and consistent storyline • Multiple endings according to the player’s choices • Persona creation is thoroughly extensive • Allows the player to connect with the characters • Multiple difficulty settings • Randomized elements of the game help to break monotony

  11. Cons • Despite the large amount of freedom in choice, story progression is undoubtedly linear • Battles can be tedious • Game is unforgiving in regards to Game Over • Persona can quickly become obsolete • Game progresses very slowly at the beginning as there is a massive volume of introductory dialogue
