  2. EDUCATION SERVICES October 09/07 CORE BUSINESS Development and delivery of accredited training programmes as well as custom-designed, short training programmes and courses. Leadership development, the Advanced Certificate in Values-Based Leadership is accredited by the University of the Witwatersrand which awards a certificate to successful candidates. The course extends over one year of part-time study. Delivery of the course includes formal input sessions, workshop activities, action research in participants’ own schools, project work and participant presentations. The course explicitly aims to integrate the theory, knowledge and skills acquired with day-to-day work in schools. The course content is designed to: Prepare teachers to take steps towards inclusion Provide teachers with knowledge and skills to identify, assess and help children who experience barriers to learning Enable teachers to refer to appropriate specialists where necessary The course is supported by the best-selling book All Children Can Learn published by Francolin Publishers, and Together Now – Implementing Inclusive Education published by CIE Education Services. The Literacy and Numeracy courses, offered under licence from the Catholic Institute of Education, are NQF-aligned and are intended to improve the confidence and competence of Foundation Phase teachers in the teaching of reading and arithmetic according to the requirements of the National Curriculum Statement.
