  2. زمان گذشته استمراری USE: We use the past progressive to say that something was in progress (going on) around a particular past time. I was listening to the radio at 8 yesterday morning. When I got up this morning the sun was shining and the birds were singing.

  3. زمان گذشته استمراری USE: Another use of the of the past continuous tense is to stress that an activity was in progress at every moment during a period of time. I was painting all day yesterday. They were quarrelling the whole time they were together.

  4. کاربرد زمان گذشته استمراری زمان گذشته استمراری انجام کاری را در زمان معین و مشخص در گذشته نشان می دهد. می توان گفت برای این زمان دو الگو وجود دارد که عبارتند از:

  5. الگوی شماره یک Mary was cooking dinner in the kitchen last night. They were watching TV at 8 yesterday. قید زمان + قید مکان + مفعول + ing + فعل + was/were + فاعل

  6. الگوی شماره دو Tom was washing his car between 8 and 9. We were playing with computer between 7 and 8 last night. دو ساعت / زمان + between + مفعول + ing+ فعل + was / were + فاعل

  7. سوالی کردن گذشته استمراری برای سوالی کردن این زمان فقط فعلهای کمکی was و were را به اول جمله می بریم: They were playing tennis yesterday evening. Were they playing tennis yesterday evening ?

  8. منفی کردن گذشته استمراری برای منفی کردن زمان گذشته استمراری بعد از was و were از not یا شکل مخفف آن (n’t) استفاده می کنیم: I wasn’t sleeping at 8 this morning.
