Egypt had a pretty good economic situation before imperialism. Plenty of natural resources, pleasant place.   5. The Beginning of Imperialism Motives Between 1880 and 1910 the country of Africa was dived by Europe capitals. Britain ruled over Egypt along with other countries. Like France and the rest of Europeans their motive for imperializing was essentially power, the more land they took over them more influence and power they thought they had. Brook

  6. The Beginning of Imperialism Methods The Egyptians lost complete control of their country when Britain decided to colonize and control Egypt with a protectorate. This allowed the British government control the Egyptian economy and political decisions without it being intervened by Egyptians. Brook

Colonial imperialism this form of imperialism is virtual complete takeover of an area with domination over the other three types of imperialism. Economic imperialism this form allowed the area to operate its own nation but was controlled by imperialist nations. They took control of what other nations they were allowed to trade with Political imperialism even though the country had its own government it's top political positions were controlled by imperialist nations as a "puppet government" Socio-cultural imperialism the dominating country deliberately tried to change customs, religions and languages in some of the countries Brook

  8. The Beginning of Imperialism How did imperialism affect the area? Social Customs we change to a more British outlook. More like the British then themselves Economic Producing cotton for export and employing western technology and business methods. They benefited from the American Civil War, when cotton shipments from the southern U.S. were cut off, but the Egyptian cotton market collapsed after American shipments resumed after the Civil War was over.   9. Fast Forward to Independence How was it achieved? Independence for Egypt was achieved by the steady government and leaders that support the country. Independence from the United Kingdom was made official on Feb. 22, 1922. The current constitution was put into place on Dec. 26, 2011. The most recent Egyptian Revolution was on Jan. 25 2011. Shelby

  10. Fast Forward to Independence How did it affect life? Since than Arabic has continued to be the official language of Egypt. Most people in Egypt believe in a Muslim Religion. This has been the main religion for a while, but the independence of Egypt just made it easier for the citizens to practice their religion. Since independence the economy has become more diversified. The government and economy is steady, and tourism employs 12% of the workforce. Egypt has the largest overall education system in the Middle East and North Africa. Modern Edu. Present-Day Egypt Social Religion -approximately 90% of the population is Islam, the other 10% is mostly Christian Lifestyle -the more money you have, the better things are -poverty rate is 25.2%, increased 3.6% within the past few years -extreme poverty rate has gone down from 6.1% to 4.8% within the past years as well Mateya

Present-Day Egypt Homes -similar to European homes, bright colors -lots of apartments -less fortunate live in very small, hut-like homes Education -considered to have a better system than most North African and Middle Eastern places -have state, religious, and private schools -11 years of primary education, 3 years of middle education, and 3-5 years of secondary education Mateya

Present-Day Egypt Political Republican style government -president in power appoints 1 or 2 vice presidents, a prime minister, and cabinet ministers They have actually made a new draft for the constitution, that favors the rights and the way of life of Islamic peoples. Because of the revisions there is conflict within the government. Revisions include; more punishments for committing adultery, theft, going against Islamic ways of dressing, and would also include segregation by gender. Mateya

  18. Bonus Facts The Egyptian flag is similar to Syria, Iraq, and Yemen’s flags. The black represents oppression, the red represents the bloody struggle against oppression, and the white represents a bright future.
