  1. Briefly discuss in your Teams What is an engineer? How does your definition of an engineer relate to your experience of the previous session What are the keys to problem solving?

  2. What is an engineer? The word engineer has is roots in the Latin word ‘Ingenaire” which means to devise or construct. It is also linked to ingenuity. Generally we see engineers to be people who devise solutions to engineering problems. Engineers are problem solvers.

  3. How does this relate to the previous session? You will recall that last weeks experiment suffered from a number of issues or problems. What techniques did you use to solve those problems?

  4. What are the keys to problem solving? Gathering information Communication Working effectively as a team Thinking outside the box Digging deeper Considering all the options Matching your proposed solutions to available resources

  5. The aims of this session Design a circuit to test the reverse conduction characteristic of a given 5V1 zener diode Draw up a specification for the test Compare the results from this test with the one carried out in the previous week
