  2. About Mrs. Jernigan

  3. Beginning of the Day • Homeroom- enter the room, have agenda out on your desk. • Be out of the hallways by 8:00 • Be on task • Put all backpacks, books, lunches, coats, etc. in your locker BEFORE you enter the room • Bring all required materials with you

  4. Entering the Room • Each day you should enter the classroom on time, ready to work • Take any papers and supplies located on the back counter • Open your agenda and enter the Essential Learning statement displayed on the board and write down any homework • Enter the room quietly without disrupting any other students • Sharpen any pencils before the bell rings • If we had homework the previous night, have it out on your desk • Also have agenda out on your desk • Begin working on your Bell Work quietly until I ask you to stop

  5. During Instruction • Please do not get up out of your seat during instruction unless I have given you permission to do so. • If you need to sharpen your pencil, wipe your nose, etc. Please utilize the supplies in the supply bin at the front of your table.

  6. End of the Period • Gather all of your materials • Make sure you have a clean workspace • Remain in your seat until you are dismissed • I dismiss you, NOT THE BELL!

  7. Leaving the Room • Ask permission before leaving the room for any reason. I need to know where you are at all times! • Take your agenda/appropriate hall pass/materials with you as you leave • Do not disrupt any other students on your way out • Remember to walk down the hallway • No running/playing in the restrooms • Be punctual!!

  8. Lining Up • Wait to be instructed to line up • When called, push in your chair, take any necessary items, quietly line up without disrupting others • Face the front of the line • Listen for any teacher instructions

  9. Announcements and Visitors • You should immediately stop and be quiet • Pay close attention to all announcements—it may be something you need to know! • As always, be on your best behavior.

  10. Signal for Attention • “Freeze Please” • Bell • I am the only person who should EVER touch the bell.

  11. Supplies • Supply bins and use of them • Check back counter (will be included with your Bell Work if this is necessary) to pick up any handouts/additional materials that will be needed for class. • My classroom supplies must be used properly and should be returned neatly by the end of class.

  12. Group Work Table If called to the group work table, do not bring anything with you unless I ask you to bring it. Find a place to sit Listen carefully for directions Do not speak when someone else is speaking, wait your turn Do your best and work hard!

  13. Help with Assignments • If you are working as a group, politely ask a group member • Raise your hand to get help from me on an individual or group assignment • Ask before class, after class, during homework checks, or in small group time

  14. Turning In/Passing Back Work • Make sure your name is on the paper • First and Last Name • Date • Assignment • Number in top LEFT corner (will be assigned later) • Place your paper in the “Turn-In” side of the folder • Any work that needs to be passed back will be in the left side of the folder • Graded assignments may be passed out at the beginning or end of each class period. • Assignments submitted without names will be placed on the “No Name” sign. It is your responsibility to retrieve your assignment, place your name on it, and resubmit it for a grade. • Please, do not throw away any returned work!

  15. Late Work • Place all late work in your Group Folder • All late work must have the assignment you are turning in written at the top of your paper • If you do not have an assignment to turn in at the time it is due, you must turn in a paper with your name, date, assignment name, and reason you do not have your work. I must get something from you!

  16. Missing Work/Absent Work 1. Check online for assignments. 2. Look in the appropriate file for any worksheets from that day. Check only before or after class. 3. Ask a reliable friend in your group for any notes. 4. Tests and quizzes, along with any assignments, must be completed within five days of your return to school. 5. Remember that it is your responsibility to get makeup work!

  17. What to Do with Unfinished Work/Work Not Yet Collected • Keep all unfinished work in your binder • Work not yet collected can go in your binder or in some situations in your group’s folder (with name on it)

  18. Online Grades 1. You are expected to keep up with your grades each nine weeks by keeping your graded work and checking grades online. 2. I will update online grades weekly once avaliable.

  19. Restroom • Use the restroom BEFORE class begins • Ask before you go before class to not be counted late • Use the restroom during designated breaks (Ask permission first) • Emergencies • Agendas

  20. Food/Beverages • You may have water • It must have a lid on it in order to help prevent spills • You may not have food in the classroom • No Gum allowed! • 3rd Period-Lunch

  21. Throwing Away Trash Please do not throw away trash while I am teaching whole group If I am not teaching whole group, you may throw away trash at your convenience. Recycling

What To Do During Free Time • If you finish an assignment early: • Work on any unfinished assignments for this class • Ask if there is anything you can do to help me (if I am not busy with another student) • Work on any unfinished assignments for other classes • Study • Read a book **UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE SHOULD YOU EVER BEGIN DISTRACTING A PEER ONCE YOU FINISH AN ASSIGNMENT!!

Mark System • G = Gum • DC = Dress code • R = Responsibility issues • PT = Physical threat to student • T = Loud or inappropriate talking • OT = Off-task behavior, rules broken • LU = Late to class, unexcused (tardy) • DT = Disrespect to school staff member • DP = Disrespect to person/school property • H = Homework/class work not completed

  28. Consequences 1st Offence: Warning 2nd Offence: Behavior Mark in Agenda 3rd Offence: Teacher/Student Conference 4th Offence: Parental Contact * Any major discipline problems will be handled immediately with an office referral.
