  4. Context: State Budget • $650M in cuts for 2011-12 • Goal in the face of cuts is to maintain: • Quality • Access • Affordability The UC experience continues to be a good value for students and their families.

  5. Tuition and Fee Increases • Systemwide Tuition and Fees increasing in response to state budget cuts • UC remains committed to financial aid programs • 2012-13 application fee increased by $10

Policy Implementation The freshman admission requirements changed to: • Remove unnecessary barriers like the SAT Subject Tests • Continue to ensure that high-achieving students will receive an opportunity to enroll • Allow UC to consider more outstanding students and send a welcoming message to a larger, more diverse pool of applicants

  18. Admission Requirements All applicants who meet minimum requirements will receive a comprehensive review of their application. • 11 of the 15 “a-g” courses by the end of 11th grade • 3.0 minimum GPA (weighted, capped) • ACT with Writing or the SAT Reasoning Test

  19. Campus Selection in Admission Comprehensive Review – Policy since 2002: • Defines merit using multiple measures of accomplishment and promise • Considers the personal and school context in which the applicant has demonstrated achievement • Requires individual applicant review

  20. Key Messages for Students • Aspire to be a well-rounded student • Do as well as possible in “a-g” courses • Complete the required tests • Apply to multiple campuses • SAT Subject Tests are no longer required

  22. 2012 Freshman Admission Requirements • Coursework • Complete any 11 UC-approved “a-g” courses prior to senior year • Complete all 15-course “a-g” subject pattern by the end of senior year • Courses must be completed with a grade of C or better • Grade point average • Minimum 3.00 weighted GPA (for CA Residents) • Minimum 3.40 weighted GPA (for Non-CA Residents) • Based on “a-g” courses completed in 10th and 11th grades, including summer courses • Examinations • ACT with Writing or SAT Reasoning Test by December of senior year
