  1. How to get lighter armored vehicles for our Army? Łukasz Kaczmarek Ph.D. Technical University of Lodz Mechanical Engineering Faculty Institute of Materials Engineering lukaszkaczmarek78@gmail.com

  2. Defense Sector • Construction of armored vehicles is too heavy. To increase the range of aircraft, helicopters, tanks and unmanned aerial vehicles used in combat. To increase their load bearing capacity. To reduce overall fuel use.

  3. During an armed conflict 30x Fuel value Political stability Scientific-industrial Armed Board of Ministry of National Defence U.S.Army* • Fuel consumption decrease – more safety fuel logistics.

  4. Project „Functional Gradient Material for the Automotive, Aviation and Defense Sector” The project proposal was submitted this December 8th for evaluation to the EU’s 7th Research Framework Programme’s “Research for the benefit of SMEs” competition(TUL, Inowacja Polska, AGH University of Science and Technology, LMA SRL – Lavorazioni Meccanice per Industrial Aerospaziale, TECAVAC Ltd., REDOR Sp. z o.o.) Project „Light, wear resistance, functional gradient materials for automotive industry.” N N507269540 (TUL, AGH University of Science and Technology, VUHZ a.s.) Project„Light gradient materials for high-loaded mechanical applications” TUL’S fund. (TUL, AGH University of Science and Technology, Faculty of Masterials Science Warsaw University of Technology)

  5. During this project, students must realize following stages: Analyze main elements of selected armored vehicle from materials and forces point of view. Determine element/elements which could be manufacture from lighter material with taking into consideration personal security of soldiers. Based on available data (for example: the conflict in Afghanistan, for group of selected armored vehicle etc.) cost analysis with and without light materials should be done.

  6. Dream Team • Surface engineering. • Mechanical Engineering, • Business Studies, • Environment protection, Technology transfer.
