Averaging techniques. Mean, Mode, Median and Range. Mean. Mean - Add up all the numbers and divide by the # of numbers in the list. example. Find the mean 85,90,90,87,73. Mode. The number that appears most often in the list (there may be no mode in a list or more than one mode)

  2. Mean • Mean- Add up all the numbers and divide by the # of numbers in the list

  3. example • Find the mean 85,90,90,87,73

  4. Mode • The number that appears most often in the list • (there may be no mode in a list or more than one mode) • Put numbers in order!

  5. example • Find the mode 85,90,90,87,73

  6. Median • Number in the middle when the list is in order

  7. example • Find the median 85,90,90,87,73,100 • List in order (73,85,90,90,100) • Find the middle (90) • If more than one middle, add both and divide by two

  8. Range • The difference between the highest and lowest number in a list

  9. example • Find the range-85,90,90,87,73,100 • Find the highest 100 • Find the lowest 73 • Subtract- that is the range 100-73= 27
