  4. ERVA History • Proof of concept during Spring 07 semester • Demonstrated ability to link ASL to ATC lab via ERAU network • Design based on online multi-player flight/ATC simulation VATSIM model • Formalize the process

  5. ERVA Capabilities • Allows pilots, dispatchers and air traffic controllers interaction • Participants can see and hear each other (Multi-player) • Simulate: • 26,000 airports • Various weather • (specified or real-time) • Night or day • Any aircraft (including UAV)

  6. Cost • Approximately $50,000 for ATC lab computer equipment • Commercial off-the shelf (COTS) computers and hardware • $35,000 for construction to house the ATC lab

  8. Radar Lab • 4 TRACON stations • 4 Enroute stations

  10. Airway Science Lab • AC-1 Room 110 • Classroom with 36 stations • Dell computers • Added joysticks and headsets • Microsoft Flight Simulator

  11. A320 Trainer Donated by Airbus Built mostly by students Used in Avionics course Will be used in Capstone course

  12. ATC Lab • Located in F7 on the flight line • Completed October 08 • Radar • 4 Center Stations • 4 TRACON Stations • Tower • 4 voice stations

Scenery Design • To increase the realism of scenery included in stock FSX • Accurate widths of runways and taxiways • Accurate placement of runways, taxiways, signs, and other airport objects • Improve pilot familiarization with training airport(s) • Creates more realistic interaction between pilots and tower controllers during simulation

  15. ATC Minor/Major • FAA CTI approval September 08 • ATC minor in place • Currently developing curriculum to include ERVA • ATC Major near future?

Air Traffic Management III • AT305 created Fall 2008 • Breaks down Denver Airspace from a TRACON perspective • Run simulated approaches and departures • Multiple controllers • Simulation vs classroom environment • ILS approaches • Pseudopilot software allows one individual to control multiple aircraft • Learn from each other’s mistakes

  17. Fly Ins • Use DEN/ABQ centers • KTUS, KPHX, KPRC, KDEN • Pilots filing flight plans and flying routes • Center and tower controllers practice clearances and controlling techniques • 10-20 students involved
