  2. Body of water? Pacific Ocean is to the left of the strait. Atlantic Ocean is to the right of the strait.

  3. Countries involved? • It goes through Argentina and Chile • It lies within Chilean territorial waters • The strait major part is the Punta Areanas on the Bronswick Peninsula

  4. Length and width? • Width ranges from 3 to 35 kilometers(1.9 to 22 miles) narrowest and widest point. • Length is approximately 600 kilometers(370 miles long).

  5. Important? • Ferdinand Magellan founded this strait in 1520. • It shortened the Atlantic Pacific passage by several thousand miles. • It was important to ships cause it’s a faster way to get from one place to another. • It was also important to people because they got their goods in a much faster pace.

  6. Out of business? No impact due to the Panama Canal Panama Canal saves 8000 miles from the east coast to the west coast of the United States. 12,000 ships passes Panama Canal every year for Strait of Magellan it’s a whole lot less.

  7. Strategic, military, or economic value? • Was an important sailing route before 1914. • About 100 years ago it was a shorten way from pacific ocean to the atlantic ocean. • Its located on the bottom of South America and was important back then and not as important today cause of Panama Canal

  8. Advantage and disadvantage? The country that has the advantage of the strait is Chile but you still have to go around Argentina to go through it.

  9. Strait today? Today tourist boats goes through this strait and scientist goes through it to research on the Antarctica.

  10. Physical Geography? • Its divided by two arms. • Flanked by mountain ranges. • Continuous strong winds. • Windy, rainy, cold, storms, lightening, thunder, strong currents, foggy, etc.

  11. Human Geography? Chile and Argentina had a little argument about owning or ruling the small islands in the strait in 1970 but had been settled today.
