  1. PRODML Review Energistics Western Europe London, 31 May 2011

  2. Summary - Aims of Presentation Review background Short term re-energize New Capability: Wireline/Drill Stem Testing Plan: Completions Find compelling business cases Request member involvement

  3. “A Brief History of PRODML” • ‘05 – formed by majors, invited service co’s • ‘06 – $1.25m, Focus “DOF”, 4 pilots, plug & play demos, ATCE launch v1.0, SPE paper • ‘07 - ~$0.7m, 7 pilots, 2 reporting, 1 DTS, 4 DOF, ATCE roadmap & 2 SPE papers • ‘08 – slowing momentum, 1-2 pilots, SAM/GDA • ‘09-’10 – fewer initiatives, incremental release

  4. Re-energize during 2011 Demonstrate essential commitment by maintaining annual & “responsive” releases Identify a Compelling Business Case objective, achievable in 1-2 years, with commitment of current SIG membership to contribute Refine roadmap longer term around industry desires & matching commitments

  5. 2011 Development • Release 2.1- pending • adds Formation Tester • Saudi Aramco requests - incr. release • Gain Aramco involvement and usage • Completion Object– start work • Work with WITSML • Ensure Business Case & use cases understood & supported • Regulatory reporting - prep. for 2012 • Interact with NDR SIG to gain requirements

  6. PRODML Data Objects Flow Network Product Volume Production Operation Well Test DTS Time series Fluid Sample and Analysis Wireline formation tester (coming in 2.1)

  7. Scope of Formation/Drill Stem Testing Analysis Time-series Data Flow PVT Lab Analysis Transient Welltest or Wireline FT Performance & Res Descr. Reservoir Inflow Parameters Sample P Fluids Properties Pressure Transient Q P Gauge

  8. WFT Packers

  9. WFT Probe Types (examples) Oval Pad Probe Single Probe (Weatherford photo) Central plus annular Probe See:~http://www.halliburton.com/public/common/Data_Sheets/H06089.pdf See:~http://www.slb.com/content/services/evaluation/reservoir/quicksilver_probe.asp?

  10. WFTs: Multiple Layers Tested Can test, sample, analyse and report flowing interval by flowing interval. Each “stop” is referred to as a Station

  11. Results Derived From Results WFT Station Sensor 1 Sensor 2 Tests Samples Events Methods R2 R1 Results Example: property measured in test 2 is used to derive results from test 3

  12. Results across stations  upscaling, form eval., res.descr. Results apply at each station individually, but also across multiple stations. Std. Logs Property Profiles Property Gradients WFT Stations

  13. Completion Data Drilling Production Drilling & Completions Domain Production Domain Drilling system WITSML Optimization using models Optimization Workover Planned New Completion Complete Completion DB Drill E.g. Gas Lift Change Drilled Well Well Services Completed Well Surveillance/ Reporting SSSV DTS DTS Flowing Intervals, sensor depths Tubing Perm. Gauge Perm. Gauge Packer Perforations

  14. Compelling Business Cases – e.g.’s • Completions (D&C  life of well) • NDR and/or NOJV reporting • Service company data (field  office) • DOF • Formation Evaluation How? • Member commitment to “make it happen” • Roadmap • Iterative approach to thorny problems

  15. 2011 Promoting Awareness • Take story back to key members • Promotion/assessment: current capabilities • e.g. survey of well test use (?others, e.g. reporting, DTS, etc.) • Initiatives: compelling but achievable aims • Get right expectations and engagement

  16. 2011 Processes • Requirements capture - Use Case Team • Completions • Regulatory reporting • Development - Specification Team • Data schemas & services • Support - Deployment Support Team • Documentation and help • No team or resources currently in place

  17. 2011 Technology Trends • Shared issues across standards • Need for cross-standards workgroup to integrate all this

  18. The Team Jim Green (CVX) – Board sponsor Bill McKenzie (CVX) & Mike Knewtson (SLB) – Spec Team co-leads + ~6 regular Dave Shipley (CVX) & TBC (svc co) – Use Case Team co-leads + ~ 2-3 regular Jerry Hubbard, Jana Schey, Gary Masters - Energistics Laurence Ormerod – PM (part time role)

  19. Our Need • Please get involved!! • Any input welcome, esp: • Use Case Team (details or long term vision) • Deployment Support • We want to be led by real world deployments
