  7. Your Morning Show with Willie B Monday – Friday: 5am – 10am There are 138,600 metro residents listening to Willie B weekly Source: Age/Sex: PPM Sep-Nov 2012, P18+, AQH Comp • Income: Scarborough R2, 2012, P18+ Source: PPM Sep-Nov 2012 , P6+ Willie B has two passions - cars and radio. He grew up in Kentucky spending time with his father at the local drag strip. At the age of 15, after mowing lawns and saving his money, he purchased a 1971 Dodge Charger. He quickly became quite attached. After several years of frustration on the racing scene, he decided to focus on radio full time. Willie got his start behind the microphone in Winchester, a community east of Lexington, at age fifteen. After stops in North Carolina and Florida, in the early '90s he arrived at KBPI. His personality and appeal has allowed him to build a large following with his popular morning show. But the siren of car enthusiasm once again called his name. Willie built a 1968 Dodge Super Bee to compete in a “PINKS All Out” season two episode at Bandimere Speedway, just outside Denver. That move lead to him join the show as a regular cast member starting in season three. In 2002, Willie became the PA announcer at Colorado Mammoth lacrosse games. He is credited for coining the terms “sock-trick”, “get in the box”, and “the loudest house in lacrosse”. “Sock-trick” came about in 2004 to describe a player scoring six goals in a game. When Mammoth superstar Gary Gait scored six in a game against the Anaheim Storm, fans threw socks onto the playing surface, and a new tradition was born.

  8. Dan Monday – Friday: 10am – 3pm There are 167,000 metro residents listening to Dan weekly Source: Age/Sex: PPM Sep-Nov 2012, P18+, AQH Comp • Income: Scarborough R2, 2012, P18+ Source: PPM Sep-Nov 2012 , P6+ Dan listened to the station since he was in 8th grade so imagine his delight when he started Rockin' the Rockies in 2007. Dan had humble beginnings in his radio career. He started at Clear Channel as a courier in 2005. His sarcastic humor and observations got him noticed and he started picking up some shifts on The Fox. An opportunity opened at KBPI in 2008 and he moved to a regular evening shift. After some personnel changes in 2009 he grabbed the mid-day shift and has been entertaining listeners since. Dan is unique in that you can never tell if he’s kidding or serious. He told us, “(It’s) easily the best job I've ever had. Then again, the jobs I've had up to this point weren't great. One of them was the scary clown at a haunted house at Elitch‘s”. He also said “My show is a mix of high and low brow humor. It’s a classy way to tell fart jokes.” Dan’s show keeps listeners up to date on all the shows and events coming through town as well as witty observations on the news of the day. Dan has been the voice for many advertisers on KBPI including Jack In The Box, Apple, Cricket, Reeses Peanut Butter Cups, Starbucks and more.

  9. The History of KBPI KBPI started at the 105.9 FM dial location in 1969. During the 1970s and 1980s, KBPI’s television commercials featured a blonde woman lip-synching with bits of popular Rock songs, the DJ's voices, and the tagline "KBPI Rrrrrrrrocks the Rrrrockies!" This catchphrase is still used on the station and has even been duplicated at other rock radio stations in the United States and Canada. It is interesting to note, the "blonde woman" featured in the commercial was Kelly Harmon, sister of actor Mark Harmon. During the ‘70s, KBPI gained press for inviting people to bring their disco records to the station office for destruction, and this was frequently broadcast live over the air to the tune of Black Sabbath songs. This was commonplace among AOR stations who were riding the anti-Disco theme at the time. In 1994, KBPI moved to 106.7 FM, which had been the home of KAZY, its long-time competitor and a former sister station to KLZ-TV and AM. KBPI is well known for its tradition of innovative ideas on and off the air. Bikini calendars featuring Denver’s most beautiful women, letting listeners build their dream car and then giving it to them, one of the most popular and well attended car shows in the state, dropping vehicles from cranes, occasional personality run-ins with the law, supporting local musicians with contests featuring Colorado artists, as well as some of the best active rock being played today are just a few reasons that this award winning station has developed a fiercely loyal fan base and kept it through the years.
