  1. IETF Liaison Report to T11 David L. Black October 5, 2006 06-740v1

  2. IETF Working Groups • IP Storage Working Group (ips WG) • FCIP, iFCP, iSCSI, iSNS and related protocols • Plus management MIBs for these protocols • Internet and Management Support for Storage (imss) WG • IP over Fibre Channel and Fibre Channel MIBs • Pseudo-wire emulation edge-to-edge (pwe3) WG • Link-layer protocol encapsulation, primarily over MPLS. • Fibre Channel over Pseudo-wire (joint w/FC-BB-4) • David Black is chair of the ips and imss WGs. 06-740v1

  3. Recent News • Fibre Channel MIB RFCs Published • RFC 4625 Routing Information MIB • RFC 4626 FSPF MIB • Virtual Fabrics MIB should appear soon • MIB Development model • Will keep current joint T11/IETF model • imss WG rechartering (for FC-SP MIB) coming soon 06-740v1

  4. IP Storage WG Status (1) • iSNS MIB Expert Review (MIB Doctor) • Review complete, draft being revised • iSCSI Implementation identification • Working Group Last Call complete 06-740v1

  5. IP Storage WG Status (2) • Working group last call completed: • iSER (iSCSI Extensions for RDMA) • DA (Datamover Architecture for iSCSI). • Underlying RDDP protocol approval should happen in near future. • iSCSI Implementers Guide • Capture iSCSI implementation experience • Will be open for contributions during 2006 06-740v1

  6. IMSS WG Status • WG Last Call on three FC MIBs completed • RSCN, Fabric Configuration Server, Zone Server MIBs • Lots of comments (courtesy of early MIB Doctor review) • T11 support of IETF MIBs • FC-SW-5 value allocation – T11 process failure • T11.5 and T11 plenary document will correct this • IETF MIBs need stable T11 documents to reference • FC-GS-5 is stable, FC-LS should be stable soon • MIB development model • MIB development will not move entirely into T11 • imss WG will be rechartered soon for FC-SP MIB • Interest needed in FC-SP MIB reviewing & implementation 06-740v1

  7. Fibre Channel over Pseudo-Wire • draft-ietf-pwe3-fc-encap-01.txt • FC traffic encapsulation in packets for MPLS • Protocol will be joint IETF/FC-BB-4 work. • Analogous to FCIP development (with FC-BB-3) • Liaison issue resolved: Congestion control • Specification of TCP-class congestion control for the FC PW will done in IETF as opposed to in T11. • IETF pwe3 WG is working on congestion control for pseudo-wires in general 06-740v1

  8. FC Addresses in ELS payloads • FC-IFR uses address translation • S_ID and D_ID change across fabrics • iFCP also uses address translation • Separate FC domain at each gateways • Some ELSs have embedded addresses • FC-IFR is specifying the necessary translation • This FC-IFR work is applicable to iFCP • Remove ELS address translation details from iFCP RFC • Revised iFCP RFC would reference FC-IFR instead • Revision timeline for iFCP RFC is TBD 06-740v1

  9. Next IETF Meeting • The next IETF meeting will be held during the week of November 6th inSan Diego, California. • The ips and imss Working Groups will not meet. 06-740v1
