YGT – CLEAN YOUR YARD CAMPAIGN ORGANISATIONAL PROFILE We(YGT) are a youth led and formed Non-Profit Organisation (registered on the 29/09/2009 by the Department of Social Development) who have hosted a number of community outreach programmes across South Africa in more than 100 municipalities, and in particular in the eThekwini Municipality. And having worked with the eThekwini Municipality – Community Participation, Grants in Aid, Parks, Heritage and Libraries units on a number of YGT developed programmes. YGT manage to run their projects in both the urban and rural wards within the same municipality. Currently, working on: 1. Environment, 2. Climate Change, 3. HIV Aids prevention, 4. Social Cohesion, 5. Behavioral Change Communications, 6. Entrepreneurship, and 7. Social Services

PROJECT BACKGROUND AND CONCEPT • This project is to start on the 01 September 2013 and end on 03 December 2013 • 12 December 2013 its awards ceremony day for the project winners and charting the way forward for 2014 project expansion to other regions and provinces • It is there to apply environmental and recycling practices that minimises the impact of climate change • while skillfully utilising the lack of the resources (such as land) in and around WARD 16 & 17 circle of influence • Targeting homes, schools, churches and adopt any spot in order to keep pace with the demands of a growing population through 1 home-1 garden • The project aims to have this environmental project run for the intentions to upgrade the landscape of each household at the same time greening the same area, and responding to wet-lands indirectly and illegal dumping

  4. PROGRAMMES 1.) YGT - Clean Your Yard Campaign - This campaign will run like a competition there to invite all residents to participate in it by cleaning their yard, 1 home – 1 garden, recycle, and upgrade their landscapes voluntarily. 2.) One Home, One Garden Campaign - is there to invite each household, church, school, dumping site, and any spot available to have gardens and champion trees planted. This will in turn focus on one or several productions for the open market as per the demands of the market this season, and incentives or money raised brought back to the YGT/OSS/local leadership to meet community developmental needs.

  5. PROJECT MONITORING • YGT volunteers and stakeholders through a systematic checklist, will assess and visit the sites to monitor progress on a daily/weekly basis • Community will be introduce to environmental education (By them knowing how to identify alien plants and indigenous plants/and planting more champion trees) • Have a monthly magazine updating and educating local community about the project success and challenges with regards to climate change within that locality • Document management is needed throughout the project from start to finish – with emphasis on pictures • A selecting committee/panel appointed to facilitate the transparent and fair awarding and approving of project winners.

  6. OBJECTIVES • Green the local area whilst responding to climate change • Form co-operatives to sustain the same green projects within the same community • Start a local/ward nursery • Answer to triple challenges of unemployment, poverty and inequality
