  3. Example 1: • Solve 9y + 4x = 7 for y • Solution 9y + 4x = 7 Write the original equation -4x -4x Subtract 4x from each side 9y = 7 – 4x 9y = 7-4x Divide each side by 9 9 9 y = 7/9 – 4/9

  4. Example 2: • Given the equation xy + 3x = 2, find the value of y when X = 2 and x = -2 Solution: xy + 3x = 2 Write the original equation xy = 2-3x Subtract 3x from each side. y = 2-3x divide each side by x. x When x = 2: When x = -2 Y = 2 – 3 (2) = -2 y = 2 – 3(-2) = -4 (2) (-2)
