  1. Welcome to the Writing Process! Click each process to learn more. Start at the top and follow the arrows.

  2. Step One This is the first step in the process because… PREWRITING 1 • In this stage you plan what you are going to write: • Brainstorm Topics • Choose a Topic • Identify Audience and Purpose • Brainstorm Ideas • Organize Information -ex. Outline, Web, etc. Click the home button to review the process diagram.

  3. Step Two This is the second step in the process because… DRAFTING 2 • Writing your ideas in a structured form (sentences & paragraphs) • Follow your pre-writing plan in order to write your first draft • Keep in mind that more than one draft may be written throughout the writing process. • Drafts do not need to be perfected – just write your ideas how they come and perfection comes later Click the home button to review the process diagram.

  4. Step Three This is the third step in the process because… REVISING 3 • First part of editing your work – clarifying and reorganizing your ideas • You will be the first reviser – Read your work and make any changes that you feel will improve your writing • Second reviser – You will exchange papers with one of your peers in order to receive new ideas and feedback • Third reviser – I will be your last reviser if you want more feedback Click the home button to review the process diagram.

  5. Step Four This is the fourth step in the process because… EDITING 4 • After making the changes to your composition from the revising process comes the final editing • Read your paper once more and polish your work • Look for small errors with grammar, spelling, capitalization, and punctuation • Make a final copy of your work Click the home button to review the process diagram.

  6. Step Five This is the last step in the process because… SHARING 5 • Professionally, this is when the work would be published (book, article in a magazine/newspaper, etc.) • Your options for publishing – • Read out loud to your peers • Post on the Bulletin Board (inside classroom or out in the hallway) • Place in the library • We can make a classroom book with everyone’s work • There is an option for no form of sharing Click the home button to review the process diagram.
